USB compatibility

Post by Kraka's Dad »

I have searched the forum but can't find the answer.
My laptop has 3 USB2 ports and I want to know if they are compatible with USB3 hardware like external hard drives etc?
Many thanks

i will work just like 2.0 USB. So the data transfer is not as fast as 3.0

... The USB 2.0 standard offers a theoretical maximum signaling rate of 480 megabits per second, while USB 3.0 defines a maximum rate of 5 gigabits per second. In other words, USB 3.0 is theoretically more than ten times faster than USB 2.0."

Hi, I have both USB2 and USB3 ports on my laptop.
As stated previously, USB3 is way way faster, so transfer to say, an external HD is so much quicker.

Both 2 and 3 ports, work with any hardware you may attach.
