I have a video which is a DAT file. VLC will play it on my laptop but can I convert the file so that it will play on my Galaxy III? If so how?

Richard,
you should be able to download the VLC app on your Samsung. Whether it will play the *.DAT file is a different story. If it doesn't work then you will need a conversion program. Will have a look online and see if anything is suitable.
GN.

Edit: I'm sure there is some suitable converstion program out there.

'Any Video Converter' claims it will automatically convert a *.dat video file into either an *.mp4 or *.m4v file that will play on the Galaxy S series using a simple template option. It is apparently free and yet we all know that nothing really is, so I have no idea what costs this might have in terms of advertising, email spam or some kind of antivirus companion download requirement. It looks as though you can buy a version from them for a few dollars and this may be more desirable and controllable.

Being a Mac-based editor, I have never used this program so others may want to comment but there are dozens of video converter programs from the likes of Wondershare and Aunsoft that all originate somewhere near China and work well enough although are limited in their customisation. For serious conversions, use Adobe Media Encoder, Telestream Episode or Sorensen Squeeze but these are hundreds of dollars each.

You can have a go with the built in conversion features of VLC on your laptop (File->Convert/Save). I seem to remember the dialogues being a bit fiddly but a bit of perseverance and I'm sure you'll get there!

PUP.optional.minibar

PUP.optional.minibar

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the above is? I can't understand from the internet. It only appears having been identified by malwarebytes. I'm puzzled as this only appears on my small acer convertible thingy, whilst at the same time Norton doesn't identify anything wrong. And that never normally happens, so that bothers me even more!

I'm not using the acer at the moment and am posting this from my main laptop.

Thanks

Yep, looks like malware - kill it.
