Can anyone recommend a good free movie converter software. I have an LG TV and with a few movies the TV gives the following notice "Audio not supported".
I have tried Freemake but this comes full of Malware and Wondershare but this only converts 1/3rd of the movie in the free version.
Thanks in advance

I use FormatFactory. It is very good but has so many options that it is difficult to choose the right ones. You have to experiment.
Movie Converter
Hmm. I use Freemake Video Converter and it works well. I use it for full movies all the time, and for editing or adverts on recorded programs (eg expat TV). Can convert many files in a batch and can concatenate movie clips. Never had any malware or wondershare. Regular updates. From freemake.com.
As with most freeware you should beware what you install. Always do a custom install and decline any offers of browser bars, PC speed improvements, etc.

I use HandBrake on my Mac and am pleased with it. It is available for other platforms as well.
It's Free! (And, Open Source.)

HH I downloaded but it takes over 2 hours to convert a movie, am doing something wrong, is there a setting I should change?hhinner wrote:Xmedia Recode is also excellent if you don't want to do any cutting except at beginning and end of movie. You can recode video and audio tracks, just video, or just audio. It's also very fast. Has many presets for target viewing device.

Re: Re:
The speed of conversion will obviously depend on how much recoding is to be done (quality, duration, etc,). If you only want to recode the audio then do like this:StevePIraq wrote:HH I downloaded but it takes over 2 hours to convert a movie, am doing something wrong, is there a setting I should change?hhinner wrote:Xmedia Recode is also excellent if you don't want to do any cutting except at beginning and end of movie. 1. Open the video file.
2. In format tab choose a profile and file extension (this will affect the codecs you can choose for conversion and whether you can copy input video to output video) and streaming fast start checked . Output stream is video and audio. Audio/video synchronization is checked.
3. Video tab. In left pane select general. To the right of that in Mode choose copy (because only recoding audio).
4. In audio tab. Select general. To the right of that select the audio stream you want. Set mode to convert. Then select the codec you want. Usually all TVs will play mp3, but see 1 above about profile.
5. On the menu bar click add to queue, then click Encode.
Note on profile. I looked at a few LG profiles and they all seem to allow audio in only AAC. If you find that that doesn't work on your TV try recoding with a Samsung or Sony profile and use mp3 for audio.
Hope this helps. Let me know if not.

Re: Movie Converter
HH I can't thank you enough, god knows how you worked it out as there are no instructions with the software, the last movie took just 7 minutes to convert compared to 2.5 hours when I had the settings wrong
Thanks again

Recording Streaming Video
A little off topic but.... can anyone suggest a good software program to record streaming video?
Re: Movie Converter
A quite good converter:

Some players (like VLC Player) can record streaming video but for demanding jobs use Fraps and Replay Media Catcher.
