Racing Market

Post by Big Boy »

We've seen the signs popping up on lampposts about the new food market in town so took a walk down to have a look this evening. It is located between Sois 88 and 94 on the road that runs along the West side of the railway track, situated on the site of the old go-cart track.

Just another food court in very close proximity to Baan Kun Por and the Circle, but TIT.

I won't comment on the food because everybody's taste is different.

Layout is much nicer than Baan Kun Por. There was a large TV screen showing football, and a small stage with a couple singing away. Unlike Baan Kun Por, it was pleasant background music, and you could talk to each other at the same time - the very reason I gave up going to Baan Kun Por (I couldn't hear myself think. I would guess there is probably a 30% of available pitches at the moment.

I took a couple of snaps with my phone.

Yep, went past there on Mon nite on my way to "Burgers & More" and was surprised at the crowd. Motorbike section was almost full & many cars in the big Carpark. Agree about the bands at BKP & thats why most of "Burger" clientel is from BKP. Looks like they closed Wednesdays tho.

When I read "old go-kart track" my first thought is the one by the airport that I think is still in business. I have given up trying to understand the 'copy what the neighbours' are doing mentality which can only be bad for everyone. With the tourist season about to kick off one wonders which ones will survive until this time next year.
Good that it is not too noisy and hope it lasts.

My wife and me went to the new Racing Marked yesterday, and we were absolutely satisfied with both the food and the music! We managed to speak normally to each other and the music was very good.... a mix of Thai and international songs. Still a lot of places to be rented out, but I think in short time it will be more choices of food. Good parking too. We will go again! :D

Interesting the Night Mkt at 88 has been very successful, 90+ of the clientele are Thai. and they seem to have no problem with the high decibel music. Then 2 other wannabees start, one on 94. and now this one. The one at 94 never took off, see how this one does.

Actually, the one on 94 (assuming you mean the Circle) has rebranded itself and is quite a popular area for Thais these days. Much kinder seating than Ban Kun Por, and you can hear yourself think.

I think Ban Kun Por are trying to get into the Guinness Book of Records for how many stone tables you can get into a small area. I'm not sure about drink prices at the Circle or Racing Market - I can't drink Thai beer. But it certainly seems to attract a more sophisticated Thai clientele.

Basically, one is like a huge barrack canteen with deafening music (it has driven my family away), the other 2 are relaxing and comfortable, with soft music. Like comparing chalk and cheese.
