I'll be happy to share the costs knowing there'll probably be a party out there somewhere before and after the meal. And I'm sure it will be delicious.

If I haven't got it wrong, curries came about because the British in India back then were trying to reproduce the flavour of the curry tree leaf, but with little success. The concoctions you have today try to encompass this, but with little success.
You can get the plant in question here, but with difficulty ; I do a lot of cooking myself and do like the Indian style curries.
Perhaps admin is going to consider a 'recipies' forum as well?
I do like Indian food myself, it 's more a matter of whether you want Southern Indian or Nothern Indian food.
My recommendation, if you're in Bangkok, is the Mehmaan Pakistani restaurant in Sukhimvit Soi 4 (Nana). They're just 50 meters from the traffic light junction, the food's absolutely great. I've tried many other restaurants in the same area; though a bit on the expensive side, I still say value for money. Parking is a problem, though.

One thing I've failed to understand is why do the Brits call some dishes "Chinese Curries" and then procede to eat Indian food? I've lived in China before and none of their dishes are called "curries".

Curries
Try the Shopping Mall. Take a look in the freezer section and you will see Chicken Masala with lots of other goodies like Beef Stew, Bolognese, Chilli Con Carne and Rhubarb Crumble. All you need is a microwave

Sorry Buksida just keeping up communication for Mike in his absence as I know he would have got that plug in and just to show how sorry I am I may even drop you in a few free samples (including a pasty).
Thought it was a bit naughty but I didn't mention the label, just pointed everyone in the right direction. Didn't want to see you all deprived of a good curry

Did not think that I would go all the way to Thailand and have one of the best Indian Meals I have had since I left the UK 25 years ago.
Had been in HH for about 7 days, had been eating Thai food since I had been there and fancied something different.
Went for a stroll down towards the street where all of the seafood eateries were and came across the Maharaja, looked very smart and decided to give it a try.
Had an a starter each, main meal each and some drinks. Food was very tasty, service very good and prices not to bad (cost 750baht for the lot).
Compared what we are used to pay in Australia, was very good value.
Did see the Taj Mahal up the road from there, but did not get time to try it

Funny how everybody has diferent opinions of curry houses. I was born in Asia and lived in Southall in West London for the whole of my school years so I have a good knowledge of Indian food. I have tried many times all of the three restaurants mentioned in a previous posting.
They all vary day to day depending upon what chef is cooking. Generally though the most consistent and most authentic is the one by the Hilton on the little road that goes off to the beach by the Chinese temple. The decor is naff and the service is not quick if they are busy but the food is generallly good and relatively cheap.
