Electric Mango

Post by tadrian »

We went for steaks last night to Electric Mango. It was a bit quiet - but probably because it was New Year's day and everyone was partied out. Anyway, the reason for the post is that the food was good and the steaks were exceptional. Generally it is clean and inviting and the staff are very pleasant. We would recommned it and certainly will be going back ourselves. I just hope they keep up the high standard. :-)

If you have young kids the free play area is fantastic. Parents can sit and enjoy the environment with a drink or a bite to eat while the kids enjoy themselves.

Electric Magic

Post by bapak »

What a delight..
Located in the wilderness of Soi 112 (sorry, 112 dwellers but it is rather remote).

My wife and I ventured there tonight. What a great find.

First off, a plate of hot bread rolls put on the table. Menu mainly features various cuts of steak imported from Australia and USA, plus a number of starters.

I had their signature steak dish ..300 gram of Australian rump steak, served with baked potato and corn on cob...One glass of red wine comes along with it. Cost Baht 499 and worth every Baht. Medium rare, tender and tasty.

Not many Thai dishes. My wife selected Massaman Curry with lamb shank. She was pleasantly surprised. Cost Baht 260.

When we left there were 39 adults and 5 kids still dining. Seems to be a great hit with Danes.

Open from 6pm onwards. A little difficult to find. I neglected to check the distance from Phetkasem Road. Just keep driving until you see searchlights reaching for the stars on the left.

Electric Mango Restaurant Soi 112

Post by Gin tonic - no lime »

Well having heard many rave reviews from a number of people about this venue, I would say that in my opinion there are many other spots in Hua Hin were for 2800 baht, 3 1/2 people can have a better dining experience than we had tonight. First mention was the service, overall bad. After arriving and were seated (with the 8 other guests in this fairly large restaurant), we ordered a bottle of wine and some water. We sat waiting for about 5 minutes with 7 or 8 waiters/waitresses standing about talking to each other. Finally I called one of them over... they seemed to not realize that we were there. When asked about the bottle of wine, a different waitress brought a wine list and asked which wine we wanted, after I had specifically pointed at the "specially" selected wine 'to compliment' our menu selections' which are printed on their place mat/menu. At that point I had to ask another waiter/waitress to come and take our food order. From then on things progressed in a fairly normal manner, excepting that we were never approached to comment on our dinner selections, and after having to ask to have my wine glass attended to, I completed pouring the bottle to myself and friends by myself.

As far as the food was concerned, my Aussie Rib Eye was tasty, and done close to my medium rare request, the Potatoe Gratin had a distinct Coconut flavor, and was sweet to the taste, I had 2 forkfuls and then reverted to eating my son's french fries! My Thai wife and her friend ate all their selections, but mentioned that they were not interested in returning. My 2 1/2 year old son had the fish fingers and fries from the childrens' menu (250 baht) he stopped eating the fish after 2 bites, and only ate the fries and a little of my Rib Eye, I tried the fish fingers and would not have eaten them myself!!

This was my first experience with this eatery, but I shall not return.

Other (easy to fix) reasons which may put customers off from returning.

1. The continuous in house advertising on the many TVs around the restaurant.
2. The high price of the side dishes and the small size of their portions.
3. Advertising the steak promotion with a picture of a fillet steak when the promotion is limited to rump steak.

Shame really because it is obvious a great deal of work and investment has been put into this venture.
