Moo Wanna Market "Pigland" Recon

Post by JamesWest »

I call this place "Pigland".
My Thai girlfriend took me to the Moo Wanna pork and chicken market on the Southwest corner of Soi 68 and Phetkasm Road.
They have copious amounts of raw disassembled pigs and chickens there. And small amounts of beef.
The place is air conditioned, no flies and very busy with serious looking Thai people, no posers or tourists here. I am the only farang.
Sort of like a wholesale pig outlet for restaurants. Great selection of everything.
So I am thinking the prices must be good. We bought a weeks worth of pork and chicken along with vegetables.

if you cook your own pork ribs, they had slabs lined up. :D

some of the pork and chicken was already marinated. The check out process was fast as the meat is weighed, wraped and labeled with cost before you get in line. I would say you could get by on sign language here if you do not speak Thai.

My wife always goes there for our pork now. She got me some huge chops yesterday and I'm looking forward to one tonight.
The place also sells beer and is open 24 hours. Comes in handy when looking for a very late night/early morning Chang takeaway!!

Yes, I'm not usually a big fan of pork but I've had a pork chop from there a couple of times this year and they've been excellent, both cooked at home by my partner and out at a restaurant supplied by them.

I would hope so, otherwise it would be a leg or loin filet.

Yes, I know nothing about butchery but there was definitely a bone which the dogs enjoyed as much as I enjoyed the pork chops!
