The BBC has an interesting article on the changing face of Bangkok's street food culture, could it happen in HH? whilst some places are grotty, unclean and potentially a health hazard not all street food can be classed the same. If it were all to disappear Hua Hin would be the loser.

Although street food has long been synonymous with Bangkok, the city is steadily sweeping the sidewalks clean of its vendors......
To much to paste here but an article worth reading and considering.

HH's street food is mostly in night markets.Stalls that block the sidewalks are not a big feature here.

Maybe not big but there are locations where this happens. Night market is a managed area but it is spreading north to south along Railway road and Sra Song road, and lets not forget the vendors who frequent Binthabaht area and down to the beach at Damnoern Kasem Road, plus west of the rail line going up Pala U road, Canal Road, Soi 88, Soi 94 and so on. I realize nothing like Bangkok but I believe far more than just Night Market.
However the article is not just about vendors blocking sidewalks, it is also about unlicensed vendors and providing dedicated areas where street vendors are more controlled and have to abide by laws.
Street food whilst not really my cup of tea are a part of life in Thailand and would be a great loss if all disappeared.

True, BKKs 'planning " is crazy. City authorities everywhere in Asia want their cities all to look like Dallas, countless uninspiring skyscrapers. There was a great market near Lupini park, closed and yet another shopping center built there.

Excellent day market.
Far less talked about is the massive day market next to Ratchadapisek's Sutthisan MRT station, geared towards fashionistas and foodies and frequented mainly by the office workers from the high-rises and businesses in the immediate area. Smack in between the station and a couple of tall buildings, this large covered market operates solely on weekdays.

^^ Absolutely. When will the planners (or whatever their title is) realise that a big part of the charm of coming to Thailand is experiencing something different from what we're used to in the west. Sitting on a wobbly plastic stool at whatever o'clock eating noodles, buying anything and everything from street stalls (including, of course, the fake stuff), drinking (and buying beer) whenever we want - especially on the beaches. Just having an unusual and enjoyable experience.

The unthinking Teddy Bears are already here in Thailand, slowly but surely taking over the world
