We will be open from 6 am on the 25th until about 8 pm in the evening. Closed all day on the 26th.

Well, it turns out that what made my Christmas complete was a lovely evening, including dinner at The Dutchman, with no other company for a change than the delightful Mrs D-M.

Went to a Christmas Eve party last night, but made my excuses when the Thai karaoke started after 15 minutes - I'm convinced most karaoke singers will be reincarnated as frogs. Switched on to the 'Carols from King's' at 10 last night, but to be honest it was all a bit 'fear-the-lord-high-church' for me. Gave it 5 minutes and started feeling depressed.

Of course, it's quite difficult getting into the spirit of things when you have to go to work on Christmas Day and Boxing Day...

Know what you mean about parties with Thais, DM. Give them a microphone and a bit of music and they're off (and so are we...).

This was a normal working day for us. Stopped off at our favourite watering hole, and while I was drinking a beer spotted a cute little puppy across the busy road. I've seen it before and it likes to play with the big dog our side of the road. It tried a couple of times to cross, and then the inevitable happened. It got hit by a pickup. I put my hands over my ears (the noise of a dog in pain isn't pleasant), and, after it had been hauled off the road by one of the motorcycle taxi guys, it went quiet. I thought to myself, this isn't what I want to experience on Christmas Day.

Got home and decided to watch the King's College service for a change, while eating a ham salad. It didn't seem too 'high church' when watching it, and Mr.VS and I joined in singing along with the carols that we recognised. I found it rather spiritual and calming, thinking of friends and family (and dogs) who are no longer with us.

We have to accept that Christmas here is somewhat different to what we used to have (there's a good side, and a not so good side) so we're going to have our Christmas lunch on Saturday. Turkey with all the trimmings, and whatever else we can find in the fridge - preferably liquid and lots of it.

I much prefer Christmas in the LOS to being in the UK and honestly didn't miss anything about the Western version while in HH or wherever. I'm not a fan of Christmas Carols - or snow - so Thailand has a nice balance of 'business as usual' with some nice decorations thrown in. There is no pressure to remember to send cards to everyone, and you can pop out to the shops for whatever you need, and get a decent newspaper on the 25th as well!
Maybe it's a result of having a few jobs here in the UK in the past where it's been necessary to go to work. Maybe it's a lack of religious conviction - or simply an aversion to the mad pre Christmas rush. But it's always a bit of a relief when it's over, and Eastenders gets back to it's normal schedule!
VS - I do really sympathise about the little dog. Know exactly how you feel. And one good thing this Christmas for me was watching Lady and the Tramp again - always shed a little tear!
