Re: High-speed train bids to start in 2013
If China builds this HST network, I would be very impressed.
I took a ride on the system in China, from Beijing to Some city about 2 hours
drive by car away. It took about 40 minutes and was very comfortable.
Maybe China does want a high speed system all the way from China to
Singapore. That would be a good thing. I won't hold my breath at
how long it will take it to be built through Thailand though.
Just sayin!

Eurostar has announce its new train on the channel run -- e320.
Max speed 320k/Hr (200miles/HR)
That would be BKK> HH with two stops in about 1hr 20 mins.

So it looks as if the Japanese are the favorites to build the high speed railways. They did build pretty quickly the last time they tried in the early 40s. If it comes to pass I hope they are in charge of the money in addition to the construction
Re: High-speed train bids to start in 2013
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the construction of high-speed trains connecting Bangkok with famous tourist sites and invited the private sector to participate in the project.
The Prime Minister on Thursday said the high-speed train project from Bangkok to Pattaya or Hua Hin might be a joint venture in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Thai and foreign investors were both welcomed, said the premier.
Tracks of the high speed trains are expected to be constructed in parallel with the one-meter or 1.453-meter tracks.
As for the U.S., the PM said it was still necessary for the Thai government to trade and invest with all countries despite the U.S.’ misunderstanding of Thailand’s internal affairs. Thailand and the U.S. needed to continue their trade relations as politics was politics, said the premier.
Gen. Prayuth also instructed all ministries to integrate information on their investment strategies so that he could use it for his official trips to foreign countries.

I'm a bit bemused as to why the junta is even getting involved in these vast infrastructure projects, surely that is the job of the next elected government. After the coup, his stated aims were reconciliation and being a neutral arbitrator in making political reforms before elections, there was no mention of railway construction, perhaps he wants to make the trains run on time like Mussolini!buksida wrote:Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the construction of high-speed trains connecting Bangkok with famous tourist sites and invited the private sector to participate in the project.

Economic stimulus I guess, spending some of the state funds that the previous lot had stockpiled for their family, 'voter wooing schemes', and 'favoured projects'!STEVE G wrote: I'm a bit bemused as to why the junta is even getting involved in these vast infrastructure projects, surely that is the job of the next elected government.

Good point BB. The real driver for the HST is China, who want Kumming to Singapore and Yangong links.

Actually many of them are very disappointed with the infighting reds and probably wouldn't vote them any more.Actually yes, from the ones who voted for the last government.
Back to the topic. I agree with Dr.Mike but think that rather than Singapore or Rangon, they are after a connection to Dawei.

I am sure that the Chinese realize that bringing it thru LAOS will be easy politically, of course they will have to pay. Malaysia is going to do it for their own reasons. the missing link is Thai. going to Dawei will be less distance than running it down to Butterworth.
