Will it be made of concrete, we know who owns the cement factories?
I just can't understand why the government will not give a level of autonomy to the area, it was not originally Thai it was Malay and obviously the people do not want to be Thai.
South Thailand was Malay from the sixth century, The Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909 defined the modern border between Siam and British Malaya by securing Thai authority over the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Satun, which were previously part of the semi‐independent Malay sultanates of Pattani and Kedah. The people of South Thailand have never accepted this. Another British Empire FU

Hua Hin and Thailand bomb attacks
Actually the Kingdom of Siam launched several invasions of the Sultanate of Pattani during the 1st half of the 17th Century before finally defeating it in 1784.
The Malay population revolted in 1791, 1808 and 1831 but each time it was supressed.
The Treaty of 1909 recognised Siam's de facto claim over Pattani in return for acknowledgment that Kedah and Kelantan fell within the British sphere of influence, so actually Siam did lose some territory as a result of this treaty.
So for nearly 350 years this territory has been governed by Siam.
Perhaps it is time a certain section of the population there accept this fact?

But they ain't going to accept it and the conflict will continue unless there are concessions from both sides. Easiest way is some sort of autonomous government

Good idea in theory, but how will this "autonomous government" be chosen?
Elections, as we have seen in many countries, including Scotland, do mot always produce a government that represents the opinion of the majority of the population.

That's what negotiations are for, many countries have some sort of autonomy for different states/provinces; USA with each state, Australia with each state, Switzerland with it's cantons and so on.
Surely as Winston Churchill said Jaw Jaw is better than War War.

Admirable sentiments but how do you negotiate with people that detonate bombs in front of schools, and ambush and kill teachers?

Re: Hua Hin and Thailand bomb attacks
It is surprising but governments do find ways to negotiate, they use intermediaries.
I don't say terrorists should get off lightly, as Putin said his job is not to forgive that is Gods job, his job is to send them to see God. However it is in impossible task to find them all within Thailand and many may also be outside of Thailand. So there is only one long term solution, negotiate, address both sides concerns and find solutions.

Explosive devices packed with stones and glass found in Cha-am
A ten year old girl was injured when she picked up an explosive device left in front of a clothes shop in Cha-Am on Sunday morning.
The device – wrapped in plastic – was one of two found in the popular resort town by explosive experts who arrived on the scene, reported Daily News.
The girl needed nine stitches in her leg but was otherwise unharmed. She had picked up the package outside her grandparents’ shop near the Santisuk intersection and tried to peel back the plastic. When she placed it down again it exploded.
A similar device was found 70 meters away. It was successfully defused and found to contain several stones and shards of glass.
Police think that the devices were discarded by a gang of neighborhood youths using them in gang battles following a local festival held in the town. They believe that the youths, seeing police checkpoints in the area, feared discovery and so left the devices in the street.
CCTV footage is being examined to track down who might have left the devices.
The ten year old, who was not named, told investigators that the device had been in front of the short “for some considerable time”.

THREE HUA HIN BOMB SUSPECTS CHARGED WITH MURDER
Three suspects already sought in connection with the August bomb attacks were accused of murder Tuesday in fresh arrest warrants approved by a military court.
The new warrants for Ruslan Baima, Asmeen Katemmahdi and Seri Waemamu include the additional charges of premeditated murder and attempted murder in connection with bombs which hit the resort town of Hua Hin on Aug. 11 and 12, killing two and injuring dozens.
All three men remain at large. They were previously wanted for possession of explosives and attempted arson.
The attacks in Hua Hin were part of a coordinated spree at the outset of the Mother’s Day holiday. Four people were killed in bombing and arson attacks that hit seven provinces.
All five suspects linked to the attacks by authorities were active in the southern insurgency movement. Some were already wanted for dramatic attacks such as the bombing of a Koh Samui shopping mall in April 2015. Although the separatists’ umbrella organization reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack, police have steadfastly maintained they see no link to the group.
Head police investigator Gen. Srivara Ransibrahmanakul said Tuesday he believed the case will soon see progress.
“It’s not late,” he said. “It’s only two months since it happened.”

The only head of state who knows how to deal with terrorists is Putin and states has to learn somethings from Israel.
If you give a certain autonomy to Southern Thailand, they will fall in hands if IS.
