What about the various monkey colonies, especially at Wat Khao Takiab where tourists may be at risk? Khao Hi Lek Fai also?

Apparently monkeys aren't that big a carrier.

Tha Yang district in Phetchaburi declared rabies control zone
After dead deer on a local farm tested positive to the rabies virus, the Livestock Development Office of Phetchaburi’s Tha Yang district declared three tambon in the district rabies control zones and began vaccinating pets within a three mile radius of the farm.

Somporn Kaewthavorn, chief livestock development officer of Tha Yang, said Friday that six villages in Tambon Tha Yang, four villages in Tambon Map Pla Khao, and two villages in Tambon Ban Nai Dong will be under rabies control measures until May 4. The measures took effect yesterday.

Horses in Pran Buri under rabies observation
The Nation
Livestock development officials in Prachuap Khiri Khan are closely monitoring two horses at a farm in Pran Buri district after a horse at the farm died of rabies.

Pran Buri livestock development office chief Boonmee Sammanee said a horse at the farm in Moo 6 village in Tambon Nong Ta Taem died recently after it was bitten by a rabid dog in February. The two horses will be kept under observation for six months and are being kept away from other horses at the farm, Boonmee said. The farm owner has also received a rabies shot, he added.

He said all stray dogs in the village have been rounded up and detained for observation. Meanwhile, Saroj Chanlard, an officer of the Prachuap Khiri Khan Livestock Development Office, said the spread of rabies among dogs and horses in Pran Buri had had no impact on the horse-riding business on Hua Hin beach. He said horses on the beach have been kept under close watch by their owners.

:lach: :lach: :lach: They tie their horse up on vacant plots of land where they are then left completely business starts the following day.

I wish the authorities would come and round up the stray dogs here in Soi 6 where I stay There must be at least 50 or more within a 200 meter radius from our home.

That's right, before they built the Great Wall of Hua Hin outside of our house, we used to see horses tied up for months on end with 2 x 10 minute visits each day to give water. I think 'close, is a slight exaggeration  , but we can't affect the Thai owner's earnings.

Article again, 3 August 2018, in The Nation bringing up the subject of rabies. Principally dealing not so much with the unvaccinated strays that pass it around but outlining the author’s take on the usual way that humans become infected. Written by a public relations officer for the Soi Dog Foundation.

It does highlight the Thai govt’s inefficiency at controlling the problem but also a correlation between rabies and puppy mills. And stresses the writer’s opinion that, “what few people understand is that humans do not usually contract rabies from some crazed foaming-at-the-mouth monster that attacks them in the street. The majority are bitten by their own pet, or licked on an open wound – which transfers the virus just as effectively. Particularly effective at transferring rabies are playful puppies, with their needle-sharp baby teeth. Unvaccinated puppies such as the ones from puppy farms” http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/opinion/30351338

Being at the Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket, the writer includes a plug for people to get their new vaccinated, non rabies, and usually sterilized cat, dog, or puppy there, for free. But to go on with that - we do have similar organizations here in HH. Such as ‘Rescue P.A.W.S’ (062 553 6043) contact@rescue-paws.org and Hua Hin Dog Shelter, Wat, Khao Ittisukhato, (03-253-2476),  12.583173 N, 99.936869 E http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detai ... n/30351338

Some other thailand shelters, July 2015, https://www.angloitalianfollowus.com/1 ... n-thailand And a lady in Bkk who cruises the shelters http://www.picapet4home.com/pick-a-dog.html

For people who like dogs or cats but cannot have one the shelters are always looking for volunteers to help entertain and care for their flocks.

What then , after a few days released ?
Farm owner has received rabies shots , hope he and his animals ok .
Methinks other type of shots should be given to the many , many louse infested stray dogs roaming about .

Yeh right!

Left unattended in random fields often with no water or shade. We've all seen them.

PKK municipality, not HH, but strangely yes.

All strays / homeless, disappeared for about a week, and I thought, great, gone. Oh contraire, all showed back up, with collars and rabie tags......go figure.

They are all well fed, and quite harmless, rarely even barking when taking the dog for a walk surfside. Sadly I can't say the same for the dogs with owners that run free. A couple areas I avoid due to poor owners, not managing their dogs.
