CHON BURI: About 10,000 runners from all over the world took part in the 27th Pattaya Marathon 2018 on Sunday morning, starting from Pattaya beach.
Chon Buri governor Pakarathorn Thienchai presided over the marathon's opening ceremony, attended by Pattaya City officials and a large number of Pattaya residents as well as tourists.
The runners included both Thais and foreigners, including participants from Laos, China, Japan, Ethiopia, Kenya and the United States.

The tournament was divided into five categories - the 42.195km marathon, a 21.100km half-marathon, 10.550km quarter-marathon, a 3.7km wheelchair race and 3.7km "fun run".

Bernard Kiplangat Kibilo from Kenya clocked two hours, 44 minutes and 15 seconds to clinch victory in the male marathon, winning 25,000 baht prize money and a trophy from Pattaya City.

I don't do them... , the wife does. She just did 42km at the Thai Marines Sattahip last Sunday (which turned out to be a memorial run for the cave diver who died as he participated in all the running events over here, she knew him), so no way her body is ready for another so soon. It takes her about 10 days for muscles, inflammation and stiffness to calm down.

She could be well under 6 hours by now but her and her friends always seem to find a 7-11 along the route and stop for a water and instant noodle break! :banghead: There goes 30 minutes right there. The top three Thai women usually come in a bit under/over 4 hours for the 42K. I say "Thai" as some of these races attract Kenyans and all kinds of foreign runners if there is a winner's purse. Thankfully most do not and only award trophies and medals. The Pattaya event is a money race. Pete
