Why is Cha am so different from Hua Hin

Post by SHADOW »

Local big wigs met last week to try and find out why people who book holidays in Cha am go to H H for their shopping and night life. Maybe they need some help, the beach front is really nice but do they need to park every kind of transport on it. I know Thais have a love affair with their cars. But a 2 or 3 click long beach car park makes the whole place a night mare to navigate. When they start to back out off the beach it seems that everbody on the road has to give way to the lunies in reverse.

cha-am ... a parking haven

Post by buksida »

Well the answer to the nightlife question becomes painfully obvious if you've ever had a night out in Cha-am.

Don't think the parking fiasco is just limited to Cha-am though, any beach resort where there is enough space between the road and the ocean to fit a pickup, there will be a pickup. Cha-am suffers a little more as that beach road is so narrow. Went down to Ao Manao last weekend at its the same there, just have a little more room to do that 14 point turn in your pickup laden with relatives while knocking over the motorbikes and food carts.

Cha Am is a place that you go through and stop once, thats probably because you know someone who live's there.

Boring as hell, unless you are an old timer.

:) Sorry mate but I had nothing but problems while living in Cha Am for about 2 1/2 months.

Cannot really think of anything nice to say about it, and I am really trying. Big C is closer though, something positive at last.

Cha-Am

I appreciate your opinion, and I know Cha-Am is a bit slow mate, I have stayed there but only for 2 weeks, and went to HH everynight for my excitement. But there's an expat community there who like it, maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea but each to their own, so don't knock it.

Hmmm plenty of negative posts here!

...I can't understand why. I'm 43 married to Thai and maybe I'm in the oldfarts category but...

We have spent a few weeks there a couple of times and considered staying m u c h longer.

Compared to HH - positives are... it's cheaper, has a beach road, quiet (this is a + for some), not far from HH, not full of furungs, no bars, no one.

Paradise while still being a short distance to nightlife if you want it.

...what's with all the negativity about Cha Am. How about some actual reasons for it (I'm interested!).

Yes so lets list all the positive attractive attributes of Cha Am.

Very good fish restaurant by the fishing harbour.

That's it from me I'm afraid.

Ah umm... Good driving distance from Bangkok. Methavalai Hotel with big nice pool where all the kids can have a good time and you can enjoy the buuubbbllleee. Frankly I have never jump into the sea there...

Hourse riding, kite running, a near by Gokart range... All kind of activities for family holiday. If you feel it's not your style and the only thing you are up to is Night life, girls and bars... what's the hell make you went there and kept you there for more than 1 night???

The only place I came 1 and never come back again is Pattaya.
I'm adorable crazy ! :-)

The only good thing with Cha Am is the snake/crocodile show and that it's about 30 kms from Hua Hin.

You do get a lot more for your accomodation baht there. Some very nice large rooms in the 6 - 800 baht range right across from the beach. If you have a friend.... and want to just relax by the pool or on the beach, eat well, the seafood restaurants up the north end of the beach road are cheap and very good, then it IS a reasonable destination for a few days. JMHO

linktolihn: haven't checked out Pattaya yet, but suspect I may feel the same as you..... didn't like Patong at all, although Karon and Kata are so close yet very nice ! :D
