The mostly empty suicidal bars occasionally have old miserable farts inside them, staring like zombies into the void - an elephant's graveyard, the clocks ticking on the wall waiting for death to go away. A pool ball clinks against another on a rickity table that's covered in hairdust and cloth holes.
Apparently there is a bar in Hua Hin that as that plus a water feature. It also harbors an apparition of skandiinavian origin who has spent years in the bar studying every minute detail and then communicates its disgust via this forum and emails.
Back to Cha-Am. I thought now that you had moved in there that it would have brightened up a bit.
Just an afterthought here that maybe needs some elaboration. If the pool table is covered in cloth holes then surely that means the is no cloth on it. You then state that it is covered in hairdust. Is this the Celtic name for dandruff and if so I think you should report this incident to the pool table police. I believe there is one that covers both Cha Am and Hua Hin.

Cha Am
What puzzles me about Jockey's contribution is his motivation for writing it.
It is not funny, contains no useful information and merely serves to demonstrate his general stupidity.
Why do it?
Can it be that some Hua Hin residents have more time on their hand than they know what to do with?

Re: Cha Am
Jockey is spot on though.
The best thing about Cha Am is buying some pork on your way out.

HH does not need such venues the place in Cha Am which is about as entertaining as chewing a cactus.. the words moose & Dog spring into the forefront of my mind. if this is what you are looking for better to stay in the carnival towns such as pattaya, phuket and BKKCha Am has a GoGo bar which Hua Hin lacks.
"I don't often agree with the RSPCA as i believe it is an animals duty to be on my plate at supper time"
Re: cha am
Is it still open ? Did it ever open ?Cha Am has a GoGo bar which Hua Hin lacks
We went there several times in the early days and they were not allowed to 'go-go'. Just as well as Dr's description of the staff is correct.
What's the story with it now ?

Looks like I may have upset someone for daring to say Cha Am's nightlife is boring!
While I stick by my opinion, let me try to balance that by pointing out some of the good points about Cha Am:
Although the bars are in the main poor - there are a couple worthwhile visiting (such as Crawfords and Pink Flamingo). I admit I can not comment on the red-light area because I have not drunk in this area, (because it does not look too welcoming).
There are many seedy bars scattred around town if you like that sort of thing.
In some venues, bar girls dress up with huge boots and fancy gear and sing on stage to gain approval from the mainly whisky-drinking Thai clientelle (once again a good point if you like that sort of thing)
There is a very trendy Thai bar (Baan Lang) which has good live rock music. Not many Ferangs frequent this place or even know about it - perhaps because it is too young for the older Ferang punters?
There are some good sea food restaurants by the fishing pier and they are cheap!
Some people might think Hua Hin has become too Touristy while Cha Am maintains its Thai identity.
Some excellent Issan restaurants very cheap and tasty.
Beaches North of Cha Am (in the lagoon) are almost private and very clean.
