Invasive Construction On Ruamjit (Beach) Road
Invasive Construction On Ruamjit (Beach) Road
Last year Ruamjit (Beach) Road in Cha Am was completely resurfaced (except for a few hundred meters of the south beach).
Now, the government has engaged in a project which aims to install storm drains along the road and replace PVC water pipe with HDPE. (I'm no engineer, so may be wrong about the specifics.) In order to do this they have had to destroy vast portions of the road and the existing sidewalk right up to the edge of and sometimes under facing buildings. I'm sure the entrepeneurs hoping to do business this high season are not a bit happy about this. I'm attaching a bunch of photos without comment hoping that they all say a thousand words.

It looks horrendous, but I'll bet they put it back together faster than Soi 94.

Re: Invasive Construction On Ruamjit (Beach) Road
I noticed the demolition of the pavement opposite the beach in Cha am on my last trip. Which was a few weeks ago, but no surprise to learn the work is still ongoing. Its just how much they rip up at once and then leave so many inconvenienced rather than doing a stage at a time.
But it's the same in Hua Hin, where three men, a lady and their dog are making a mess of the pavements on the west side of Petch Road in the town centre. It's been like it for weeks with no end in sight.

Walking the plank to Raya Coffee my morning cappuccino and newspaper venue of choice.
I don't know how they plan on fixing this gap to look anything but junky. Perhaps I'll be surprised.

LOL, I just have to laugh - it is just so very Thailand. They rarely make a smooth join. I remember many new road sections where there is always a bump as you move from one section to another.

But, if you're blind, it doesn't feel so good walking into that concrete utility poll.

I’m assuming that was always there and the path was there too, or are you suggesting it’s all new?
I guess that the last thing that the authorities take into account, are people with disabilities!!

I think he is suggesting the tiles with the 4 lines (to aid blind people) should go around the lamppost, rather than straight through it. Very typical, anywhere in the world of construction workers who aren't disabled. They presume everybody is as able bodied as them.

I wasn’t aware that the beige colored tiles were specifically to aid people with impaired vision - that makes Ratisma’s comment much more understandable.

Yes, but in this case, it is not just Thailand - you can find situations like this everywhere.
