Unfortunately the whole missing person scenario is an horrendous issue for police in any country to deal with.

For every person reported missing only a minority have been abducted.

The age and background of the missing person has a major impact on police reaction.

I remember a case in the border area between Samut Sangkran and Petchaburi about one year ago (maybe longer but definitely within the past two years) that was in line with the case that Jockey mentions. I have no idea if the children were ever found but at the time it was almost certain that they had been abducted.

When the kids are older (over 12) and they are orphaned or have been deserted by their parents and cared for by distant relatives or just left in their village when the parents move on then things get lees urgent in the eyes of the authorities.

I know first hand of a case involving an orphan girl who is now just 13 and the sad thing was that she did not want protection and decided tom go her own way. In many countries there would have been some authority that she could have been handed over to but not here. The opinion of the police was that without physical evidence of abuse and a missing report from the parents nothing could be done.

This is obviously the other end of the spectrum from a child being abducted against its will. This is one of the sad facts of life and could happen anywhere in the world.

I truly hope that in this case the announcements were just preemptive and precautionary and spurred by the incident close by over one year ago.

It is worrying though that if another abduction has taken place in Petchaburi that it has not made the national press.

If there is a market for slave children then that is where the authorities should focus. No market no trade.

I'll say "it does happen everywhere in the world" - India - Philippines - Russia - Southamerica - Africa - just ask around with the different Organisations involved with childrens welfare - Red Cross - SOS and all others - not nice stories they can tell, and the numbers of reports are scaring high.

I'm not a big fan of the Malaysian police as there lazy as hell and corrupt as hell but a bout a few weeks ago in a big shopping mall in KL a gang of 2 stole a little kid whisked the little kid into the mall toilets and changed its clothes and cut her hair then attempted to walk out of the mall. The kid was screaming so bad the mother went running to see if it was her kid which it was, the police woke from there normal slumber pose and chased the gang with the security guys and caught them and almost killed the gang in the middle of the mall. Not that I approve of violence but this case was defiantly a case of willing to turn a blind eye to seeing the scum getting a good beating

The school behind my soi has just had an assembly and over the loudspeakers the police gave it chapter and verse the perpetrators have been caught in petburi and the kids returned
However the police announcer said they were kidnapped for body parts to china or for sale to falangs both of which disturbs me greatly
apparently 4 were taken from my sons previous school

Same near me

Mrs.T informed me that the school near to us (near Mountain Ville) made an announcement on the PA informing parents to take extra care.

Seems these bastards arrive outside a school in a minibus and drag the kids off.

That is great news! But, the announced reasons for the abduction now shed an entire new light on what we were talking about earlier. That is a whole new ball game to think about as compared to being forced to sell flowers and sex. Pete

Does anyone else think that one of the MIBs announced reasons smacks more of "the boogeyman" than realism?

Body parts to China? China exports organs from their executed criminals, for the desperate & amoral in other countries. Why would they be bringing them in from Thai children? And please don't tell me with their "one child" policy and overflowing orphanages that they need to kidnap children from Thailand for a nasty piece of black market profiteering. I think that "reason" smacks of racism & trying to keep the people of LoS scared of the monster under the bed.

Don't misunderstand me, it wouldn't surprise me at all if criminals in China were trading body parts, I just think they have enough supply there, without sending people here to get them.

I'm obviously appalled at this like everybody else. Out of curiosity, can anybody say what age these children were please?

I think my assumption is good BB that it is a primary school, so 1st grade through 6th and possibly 7th and/or 8th grade. That would make the students 6-13 about. I feel they probably prey on the younger kids, not so young Mom supervises daily, but probably 'walkers' 8-11 years old. Pete

PS: I too am very curious if it is 'snatch and grab', or enticement of some kind. Money, candy, a good meal? Much of this prevention has to start at home. Drill " the drill" into their minds, inclusive of don't accept ANYTHING from strangers, RUN, and as a last resort take whatever pencil or pen you have and JAB it as hard as you can into something.

Unfortunately, if this a a poor area school most difficult to stop a kid from accepting a treat from anyone, especially as Thai society is generally kind to kids and Thai kids seem to be very trusting of just about anyone.

Then where I can get a good Nanny...

Post by newlife »

Will move there in April and will bring my 6 yr old son along in June...Actually I havn't decided whether hiring a house maid or nanny...I never imagine this kind of scary things before neither in Korea nor in Malaysia...now I feel definitely I need to hire a nanny since I need to work and my parents are a bit old to follow and to supervise him.....But is there anyone who can advise me where I can get a good nanny?

This story is strange. I know a teacher who works at a Cha Am school who says he was at the school when it happened. After 2 days everyone was told to act like it didn't happen. May be the police are using the people who were caught to help catch bigger fish.
