Accomodation review

Post by Isabella »

Planning to visit 18 July -28 July.
Want to know some reviews of Marriot, Central Village or Anantara.
Beachfront or not?
Weather on that period as it's low season and was told that it will rain and the sea is rough and many jelly fish.
Any recommendation about other hotel, are welcomed

Hello

On the beach are also nice guesthouses like my favorite one.
The fulay guesthouse is pretty nice, friendly staff and like a oasis to relax.
You can also have breakfast. Its about 750B/High season !

All three properties are beachfront. The Marriott is 10 minutes stroll to the south and tends to be family oriented - fairly small pool with lots of children.
Sofitel Central Village is bungalow style right in the centre of town - you can use the facilities of Sofitel Central Hotel next door.
Anantara is beautiful low-rise resort about 10 minutes by car to the north of town, and is probably my favourite.
Similar in standard is Dusit Resort & Polo Club about 15 minutes by car to the north of town.

There is a good selection of budget guesthouse accommodation in Hadthip Village next door to the Marriott, and the White Sands Hotel next to the Anantara is very nice, but quiet (and romantic!)

Although July is rainy season, you can go for days without rain, you might have a day when it rains all day or the morning can be sunny and if it is going to rain, clouds will start to build up around midday and it will rain hard for half an hour or so.
Jellyfish tend to come in after heavy rain, otherwise they do not pose that much of a problem. If in doubt sunbathe on the beach and swim in the pool!

Hope this helps you enjoy Hua Hin as much as we do!

Hyatt Regency Hua Hin

Post by Colin »

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency 2 years ago.

It is probably my favourite resort in Hua Hin. The pool and gardens are fabulous, and it's a great place to relax - perhaps the most comfortable sunbeds I have ever encountered!

It is on the quieter South end of the beach next to Chivasom, it is only 5 minutes' by taxi into town (about 100 Baht).

Unlike the other 'out of town' resorts which are rather isolated, there are some bars and restaurants (some with live music) near the entrance to the property (5 minutes stroll down the drive).

Highly recommended!

Isabella - Hi,

I thoroughly agree with Colin's comments - especially Anantara and Hyatt. For Anantara please refer to an earlier post on this forum http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/vi ... .php?t=494. My preference would probably be Anantara, but there would not be much in it!

The comment re White Sands is very valid as an option worth considering - they have a web site http://www.white-sand.com/ . The owner, Richard, is a thoroughly nice guy and the food is good and very reasonably priced.

My personal view of the Sofitel is that it is OK if you like Disneyworld. Not to my taste in Thailand I'm afraid.

Whatever - good luck and I hope that you enjoy Hua Hin as much as my wife, Janet, & I did.

Regards

Peter

Hyatt Regency Hua Hin

Post by Colin »

There is no shuttle bus into town but a taxi will cost around 100 baht.

From 10th June, a shuttle bus will operate between the Grand Hyatt Erawan in Bangkok and the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin leaving at 1000 hrs, and leaving Hua Hin at 1400 hrs. Fare 500 baht each way.

The beach in front of the Hyatt is as good as any other part of of the beach - but generally less busy!

You may have jellyfish wash in after heavy rain but believe me, the pool at the Hyatt will be more tempting anyway!

Have a good holiday!

Would like to know what can be find right on the beach.
Any bars, any small business (eating and drinking) like we can find in phuket beaches?
It's a pity coz the price fo 500 bath is good but we arrived at 9h00pm and hope traffic to hua hin will be light

Hi Isabella!

I don't remember any bars/restaurants on the beach at that end - you've got quite a few upmarket properties there, whose clientele probably wouldn't support small (rustic) bar/restaurants.

As I say you have a few small places on the road next to the entrance to the Hyatt - probably a 5 minute stroll from the hotel.

There are a number of beach bar/restaurants further along the beach towrds town, but you're probably looking at a 30 minute walk along the beach. For budget lunch I recommend a rustic wooden beach bar immediately next to the Marriott. Get a taxi to Had Thip Village - 50 - 100 baht (the driver would probably recognise the name of Thipurai Guest House better) and carry on down the road to the beach. As you get to the end go through the gate to the left, walk through the 'garden' which belongs to the family that operate the bar, and you will see the bar to your left. We spend most of our days here - cheap beer and good inexpensive food.

(Alternatively, you can go to the Marriott, walk through the hotel, past the pool to the beach, and the beach bar is there to your right!)

A limo/taxi from the airport will cost around 2800 to 3000 baht, with a 10% discount if you book a return (this is at the desk in arrivals) The only other ways of getting to Hua Hin is by train from Bangkok or by bus from the West Bus Station. The Tourist Information desk at Bangkok Airport is very helpful.

Cheers

About guesthouses

Post by thule »

Hi,
Like rosso, I'm a great fan of Fulay but I want to change and have swimming-pool.
I know very well HH but I had appartment before (Soi Salawat)!
If you know a good place with swimming pool with price between 400 and 1000...

Hi Olivier!

In Had Thip Village just past the Marriott Resort going South (turn left at the little shop on the corner), you have around eight or nine guest houses next to each other and there is a swimming pool which is shared by all the guesthouses. Although it is fairly basic, and there are no sunbeds etc, it is clean.

Depending on the time of year, the prices will be well within your budget.

Good Luck!

HI Colin
Thank you very much for all your tips.
I've checked thai airways limousine service online but there's no limo service to Hua Hin unfortunately.

Hi Isabella

It's not a Thai Airways Limo service, but there are desks in the arrivals area for taxis (but they sre often Mercedes - so called limos). You pay your fare, given a ticket and shown to your car - very painless (except paying for it!!!!)
