Sports villa Condos versus Condo chain

Post by stevieboy »

Does anyone live at the Sports Villa condos or Condo chain condos who could tell me if they have everything on site for a 6 months stay? On the internet the areas seem a bit remote from the main areas of town so just wondering if breakfast places around and general feelings about either place.

Thank you in advance for any insight.

Have stayed in both. SportVilla a touch further out of town but overall a better venue.
Rooms and pool of better quality.
Condochain been closer to town offers a better range of dining options.

Both have good and bad rooms.

CC 100 metres to the beach.
CC pool shut now for renovation to open at the start of the high season.
CC more dining options. Some close enough to walk to.
SV has a better set of pools.
Pricing pretty much the same.
SV nearly twice the distance to town on foot.
SV easier to get to town if you have wheels (uturns sometimes shut for CC traffic)
CC, you can walk into town via the main road or down the beech

They have a tree you can scale down leading all the way to town? Amazing!

Richard I would scratch the u turn problem cos if coming back from town to SV then it's all the way under the fly over and back every time to SV.

Irish Kev - Maybe you got an old room that wasn't modernised. Many private owners so all rooms are a different standard with different facilities. Some studios are different sizes and some 1 bedroom units available.

CC apartments have balconies, most with sea views and a cooling breeze. If staying for 6 months I would at least want a balcony if only a studio room.

SV has better gym facilities

SV has a restaurant I believe. :thumb:

Hope this helps a bit and maybe others will add more pros and cons.

I can't comment on the Condo Chain but the Sport Villa is a nice place great pool, food, small beer 35baht :D
The down side for me is two things the pool gets very busy all the sun beds get taken by about 10.30 each day and some people leave towels on them and think they can sod off for hours on end, until i do a little removal that is :D .

The second thing is its a fifteen minuite walk to Market Village and some of the pavement is very dodgy to walk on in the dark or in my case half cut from poolside drinking.

I don't know CC that well but mates have stayed at SV a lot, and my views would be...

- SV noticably less expensive than CC... ie: the 'tattier' rooms (but liveable for your single bloke types) were readily available for just 5k month if taken on for a year. 10k deposit but furnished. And these are big rooms relative to other apartment buildings. That's seriously good value considering the facilities there. Smarter rooms were 8-10k on 3-6 months min. What's the cheapest CC studio anyone on 6 months up, I'd be interested for mates?

- CC better for location... it's virtually on the beach, a nice beach imo at 75/1, and SV became a pain when they closed the motorbike gap in the u-turn blocks at around Soi 104. It's nothing major really but that extra run down under the flyover does get on your tits after a while. SV might be a short distance to a bit of beach... but it may as well be a few miles away imo, cos your gonna get on your bike and go down to Takiab beach probably!?

- SV better for food imo... purely cos of the 9am - 9pm site restaurant/room service. It's nice and cheap and a good menu range of acceptable food. But outside restaurant-wise there's only really one decent restaurant close by (Dave's old place whatever it's name was), CC is better for outside restaurants as Richard mentioned. Specially now that Casablanca gaffs there. Not sure what their foods like actually, but they got birds so it's neither here nor there really. Well, unless you're actually going there for the food ofcourse :?

- SV easily wins on the amenities front imo... 2 pools, gym, poolside restaurant/bar, room-service, cheap laundry, massage, and internet station. Yeah the big pool gets too busy at weekends but you never see more than half a dozen people round the 2nd pool.

- SV has much more of a buzz about it... than CC imo. If you're single or couples that are out drinking late then SV is the perfect place, farangs seem to naturally mix and socialise there instead of the usual nodding of your head at someone as you walk past without ever speaking. CC seems soulless (and shoeless - Richard) to me whenever I've been there, the security guards and those reception girls are miserable as f..., whereas the security guards at SV, especially the big one at the main building, are a great crack. They shuffle the motorbikes around to confuse people, even hiding them completely sometimes just for a laugh. Sometimes you'd come back in the early hours and the main one would crouch down in front of a parked car then jump into your face in the pitch dark.

- CC is newer, smarter accomodation... so if I was going with mates I go SV, if I was going with the wife and kid I'd go CC, and if I was going with the bird who likes a night out I'd go SV. And if I had a dodgy ticker I wouldn't walk near the parked cars after dark.

Oh and one last thing, I don't know what the set up is with internet as CC but at SV they let you get an internet connection into the rooms. And UBC I think. And 3BB's 900Baht/month package was giving a constant 14Mbps d/l from Bangkok servers, pretty damn slick. Without D.I.Y. though, there's no WiFi in the rooms, just the restaurant area.

More birds at SV.

Does anybody know if the room service extends to the houses at the back of SV?

I presume that the prices for pool/gym are per person, not per household?

I saw a sign at the pool saying non residents are not allowed in the pool, a fine of 1000bt for violations. Is there any option to pay for pool access for guests?

I presume that the prices for pool/gym are per person, not per household? Definitely per person - I go there almost every morning with my wife.

I saw a sign at the pool saying non residents are not allowed in the pool, a fine of 100bt for violations. Is there any option to pay for pool access for guests? That is only the pool at the back - no problem with the pool at the front, which is much better IMO.

SJ has it pretty much summed it up.

CC tends or is trying to be a bit snobbish. Thai HiSo's and Scandi clans. Security are mindless and admin and management on a different cloud. They are trying to push it up market and are introducing new things. Card swipe entry, no shirtless or bikini clad bods except round the pool, new gym equipment etc and the reception area is plastered with photos showing how efficient the management team and workers are. ALL to impress the high season visitors

I used to use SV quite a lot and it used to be the second home to many Canadians who got pissed round the pool before descending on to Binta block and it was good fun to join in

However, it suits me. Horses for courses

SV is being taken over by the Skandis now. I've no problem with that, but they seem to be leaving their towels on sunbeds when they've finished for the day, just to book them for the next day.

It doesn't bother me too much as I arrive, do my 1 hour swim, have a shower, cup of coffee in the restaurant and away again - no real need for a sunbed. However, anybody wanting a bed for the day would be out of luck.

The staff their are very pleasant, and can't do enough for you. always service with a smile.

I'm never there long enough to see if anybody is getting drunk.

It's a self defense mechanism the Skandis have adopted apparently. The Germans here were famous for that back in the 90's at each and every hotel I frequented. It caused many problems and fist fights between holiday makers. Many resorts put up signs in English "chairs can not be reserved...", and removed any towels left on an unoccupied chair after 1 hour. Bottom line is simply inconsiderate rubbish. If you want a chair, get to the pool early!! Pete

As I said, it doesn't really bother me - I'm not one for spending hours on a sunbed anyway. However, I do find it amusing while I'm splashing away in the pool to see people turn up after 10 each day, and sit in their 'reserved' seats. I'm sure it could end up causing problems (fun) if the inconsiderate act continues into high season.
