Stayed there in 2003.
I liked it! Like a lot of places its due a re-furb and the brekky was average, but the rooms were large and clean, with great views and well looked after and the place has a great 25 metre pool.
Overall, I thought it was VFM.
It has a night market outside twice(?) a week and a few bars just past the hospital if you don't want to walk into town.
Biggest hassle was crossing the main road every day, but at the end of a night in town, I used to get a tuk-tuk back, a 10 minute walk otherwise.
I had a good stay there although I think there are places of the same standard more central if thats what you are looking for?
