Land elevation online

Post by HHCanuck »

I was curious as to the elevation of the land our family own near Sai Noi beach. Checking if I should build a house on stilts in preparation for the polar ice cap melt.

Anyways for those who are interested there is this website. http://www.altitude.nu/

My land is fine @ 25 m above sea level.

I was checking Bangkok out of curiosity, it is in big trouble as much of it is only 2-3 m above sea level.

Interesting - I'd have thought I was much higher than 17.15m.

Admittedly I'm a little inland, but still surprised to see I'm 190m above sea level!

I'm not sure just how accurate this system is.

I checked 5 sites of family houses/properties and using this site, they are out by 2- 3 meters (to high)?

This is measured against satellite surveys we had carried out by a company based in BK, using a land based system, that receives signals from 5 Geo stationary satellites, way back in 2006. :? That system is accurate to within 20mm

I suppose, as a very rough guide, this site is OK but I would not put my trust in it, if I was going to buy land that may, later be prone to flooding. 3 meters, is a hell of a lot of water to find outside your front door after heavy rain.

I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Interesting. Somewhere between 13 and 20 metres will give me beach front status :D

[Edit] Just looked above, and the 17.15 metres was probably right then.

I would not take too much notice of either of those links. One of them shows the Hua Hin Airport as 19 metres, another 10 metres at one end and 5 metres at the other end.
The published AIP official chart for the airport shows its elevation as 10 feet AMSL and no slope, which has to be correct.

One of them also shows my house at Bo Fai as 60 feet! Caveat emptor!
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
