Wanderlust wrote:I believe that had already been laid to rest, but if you insist on bringing it up again Burger I will argue my case to make such a comment until you leave the forum in a huff again! It is my opinion that it is a risky proposition for a farang to buy property here - I am not saying it can't or shouldn't be done, but a buyer should do detailed research and be totally clued up before they decide to do it. There are so many things that could go wrong, or things that an average farang wouldn't even think might happen because of how tightly regulated the property business is in most western countries, and also how tightly regulated the legal profession is outside of Thailand, and someone could easily walk into a whole load of trouble, depending on who they are dealing with. There are some dodgy lawyers, developers, real estate agents and builders out there, as well as simply incompetent ones, not to mention the fact that a lot of people are not aware of the law regarding land ownership. There are also a lot of hard working and honest people here involved in property, but it only takes one rotten apple to cause a problem. Many people who decide to buy a holiday or retirement home here are ploughing their life savings into it and do not have money to burn, so I believe my comment is completely valid. If I had said 'do not buy property unless you have money to burn' I would understand the reaction, but I didn't say that; I just said to be extremely careful if you don't. It is my opinion and you ain't changing it! :guns:
Just as I expected, a long winded reply using 25,000 words when 25 would suffice.

The 'moderator' reference was that we'd expect sensible comments from you rather than wreckelsss and naive ones.

Well it seems some people on here have trouble understanding me when I use short sentences and familiar phrases, so I thought I ought to spell it out for the more dense amongst us.

I know somebody claims to have a bunch of land and one piece by Hua Hin that has a house on it (I've been to his house for a beer).

He's a foreigner and used a limited company. He said something about changing it around later(the structure of the company) after he had it set up. Pays taxes, rents it out, when he's not there no biggie.

Whats the fuss all about. Of course its risky to by something in a foreign country with expropriation etc. Happens all the time just look at Venezuela right now. I would think everyone who watches the news knows this risk and just accepts it that is if they wanted to buy a place and not rent.

Are people so naive that they think Thailand is going to be just like their own country?

Um, thank you for the rush of support, and advice, and other comments. I can see that this is a lively forum.

2 weeks sounds like good advice, but for now, I need to get my first taste of the place, so I plan only a couple of days because I also want to check other places on the same trip.

Seems the choice of flights for now is about £430 to Bangkok from the UK return - with various airlines online. Last couple of times I used Oasis to Hong Kong which is even cheaper (from £140 one way), and then Bangkok Airways AirPass, about $100 per international flight, $70 for national.

:D
Happy talkin', talkin Happy talk
Talk about things you'd like to do
You've got to have a dream
If you don't have a dream
How you gonna have a dream come true

Talk about the moon floating in the sky
Looking like a lily on a lake
Talk about the bird learning how to fly
Making all the music he can make

Happy talkin' talkin Happy talk
Talk about things you'd like to do
You've got to have a dream
If you don't have a dream
How you gonna have a dream come true

Let's talk about the star looking like a toy
Peeking through the branches of a tree
Talk about the girl talk about the boy
Counting all the ripples on the sea

Happy talkin' talkin Happy talk
Talk about things you'd like to do
You've got to have a dream
If you don't have a dream
How you gonna make a dream come true

Talk about the boy saying to the girl
Golly baby I'm a lucky cus
Talk about the girl saying to the boy
You and me are lucky to be us

Happy talkin' talkin Happy talk
Talk about things you'd like to do
You've got to have a dream
If you don't have a dream
How you gonna make a dream come true
And if you don't talk happy
And you never have a dream
Then you'll never have a dream come true

Burfer,
I really don't know what your problem is; you have insulted me continually in the last few posts you have responded to mine, not just on this thread, so may I refer you to the Terms and Conditions of this forum, specifically this one:
12. Flaming: flaming or personal attacks are not allowed or tolerated. Should anyone use inappropriate language, start a personal attack, or engage in hate speech, they will be banned from all further discussions. It is forbidden to make accusatory or slanderous comments against any other member without substantiated evidence to back up the claim.

I am referring this matter to admin as I have just about had enough of you and your puerile attempts to put me down on here.

If you have nothing constructive to contribute to this board then don't, it seems you only come out of the woodwork to attack people whose opinion differs from yours these days.

Burger,
I assume some of your customers come on here and see you behaving like this, so I can only hope that they draw the same conclusion about your petty remarks as everyone else does and act accordingly. I really don't know what your problem is with me, as I have never posted anything other than reasoned polite posts, only to receive your attempts at ridicule and pathetic comments and name calling; you obviously don't realise that you have already lost the argument (whatever it is in this case I really have no idea) when you start calling people names rather than make a meaningful, well worded response. I can only surmise that you are unable to do so.
