XXL? Men's sizes in Thailand

Post by MajorBloodnok »

Hello,

most probably more of a thread for the ladies, since we men rarely
choose or buy our own clothes. :) (As always exceptions govern the rule.)

Still being newcomers to Thailand and HH a nice polo shirt whose colour pattern appealed to me caught our attention. :thumb:

We had to find out that they did not store size 7, only up to 6. :banghead:
As I liked the shirt very much, we still bought it, only
to give it eventually to a Thai acquaintance as a present. :(

Do you have the same problems?

Do you know, if shops in Bangkok store "European" sizes?

Thanks!

Kind regards,

MB

It's hit and miss and a very frustrating process here. I take an American L polo shirt. Thai size I take an XXL. You really have to #1 determine if the shop caters/sells to Farangs or Thais. #2 Try on everything.

One Thai XXL may fit and the next hanger marked the same may be tight in the sides. Same with shorts. Some come in inch size and some in L, XL. XXL size. No rhyme or reason that two from the same brand name and the same size do not fit the same. Usually not a waist problem, but a side or butt problem.

It's a mine field Mike, be ready to do battle. Some ask why so many Farangs here walk around shirtless and probably in a sarong instead of pants/shorts!  Pete

Hi MB,

I've always had that problem. However, XXL should not be a problem in Hua Hin. I've seen plenty of notices in the Hua Hin Shopping Mall saying that they do that size.

The place I usually use (and have been doing so for about 10 years) is a street stall. If you turn left out of the Shopping Mall on Petchkasem Road walking towards the Night Market. About 100 yards before the Night Market road there's a guy there who always has big man's clothes. If he doesn't have what you want in your size when you're there, he'll normally get it within a week, and phone you when it arrives. He's not too expensive either.

Major, there's a place just past the Hua-Hin Hospital, heading north. Not sure what sort of stock they carry, but they always have some huge t-shirts hanging out front. There's also a restaurant there advertising "BIG" food, with a picture of a huge burger. Probably the same owner.

I find that most the shirts here are too BIG for me....

Especially with the football shirts. They seem to think that all farangs must be huge.

 Blimey, guess behind a keyboard is the safest place to make observations from then. My Mrs has a nephew that is 14-years-old and needs a Thai size large already.

Must be going to the wrong markets...

There's plenty of shirts that fit with all sorts of decoration on them ('graffiti', Caribou, a name of beer, 'No money No honey') but when I simply want a plain polo shirt they seem to have 'run out' of any smaller sizes.
