Interesting. But what kind of consumer protection (!) do we have for products purchased on an auction? Warranty etc? I guess none?

is it just for farangs as i couldnt see any thai on the site

Click on the link above and when that opens you can click on another link to the site itself. From there you can change languages.

If you don't win the auction you only lose what you actually spent. I.e. if you bid 1000 times at 25 satang a time then you will lose 250 baht. Theoretically you could be lucky on your very first 25 satang bid and win an item where the bid price is already very high - the legendary cheap i-pad maybe. Or you could give up after only 25 satang. There's no compulsion to keep going, but you can see how watching and bidding could become compulsive.

I think I'll go buy a lottery ticket now. There's 4 million baht with my name on it.
