I saw flower and vegetable seeds in Tesco, Market Village, a week or two ago.

If you head up the road that leads to the crazy railway crossing by G Supermarket you will find a shop on your left hand side of the road that sell some pet foods, but mostly things like fertilizers, pesticides, and etc. They also sell a good selection of seeds, mostly herbs and vegetables, but usually also some fruits. The shop is located about 15 meters past the road that runs parallel to the main road. So, if you are heading north towards Cha-Am, turn left at the lights just before Esso, and continue for about 60 or 70 meters. If you are on foot, you won't be able to miss the place.
There are also one or two places just around the corner, in the road running parallel to the main road.
Lastly, they also have a smallish collection of seeds at the large "sell everything" shop on the klong road. I think it is called Pornta Poon or Poonta Porn.
Your best bet though it the place I mentioned first.
I had great success growing all sorts of things and it was a lot of fun and also very rewarding. In fact, at one point we had so much Okra and so many wing beans that we were giving loads away to the locals. Tons of Roselle as well. My MIL ended up sun drying bags of it and was selling for 150 or 200 baht per kilo.
Turmeric; galangal, and ginger are also dead easy to grow. Just buy a few rhizomes at the market and stick them in the ground. They are quite nice garden plants as well, although the turmeric dies of complete during at the start of the dry season, and then reappears just as the rain season arrives. Galangal and ginger can be a bit invasive if you allow them to be.
I found melons, pumpkins and all the various gourds quite easy to grow but they take up a lot of space

Excellent, thanks for a great reply.
I'll check the place out.
Have you come across anywhere selling hydroponic stuff here too? Condensed clay pellets etc?

There's a hydroponic grocery store in BluPort, next to Yayoi restaurant on the ground floor. I'm not sure if they sell seeds/equipment or not, though.

I'm no aware of any hydroponics supplier in the area, but I'm sure you could probably find what you are looking for on lazada.com

For the kind of seeds you're looking for about the only place you can find them (now) is next to the Or Tor Gor market in Chatuchak. My last batch of parsley thyme, sage and stuff I got from Singapore but a walk around Chatuchak two weeks ago I found these. Some places also have rosemary plants.
Hydroponics is more commonplace, I usually go to Chatuchak or a garden center on the outskirts of Bangkok. Do your search in Thai language to get more hits. Hint: copy and paste.. --> ( ไฮโดรโปนิกส์ )
I've made my own out of 3" pvc pipe and is a hybrid between the Kratky system and NFT. If you lose your water flow with NFT for more than two hours you'll lose the lot..
The online kits are a bit on the high side pricewise but for a hobby, and if you don't have tools, it's your best bet. Shop around.
Also try your local garden shop for the two-part A-B fertilizer (in Thai, pui A-B). Mention hydroponics and many understand.

Makro by soi 6 also almost always sells a few different herb plants such as rosemary, parsley, and etc. Seeds for all herbs and vegetables used in Thai food can be found here in Hua-Hin. I agree that Chatuchak has obviously got more to choose from, but it is a bit of a drag getting there. If you do decide to go, it is best to go on a Thursday when the market is dedicated almost entirely to the sale of plants, seeds, bulbs and etc.

Related but how about buying soil? We live on a sandy soil that doesn't do well for growing and the shops here in Bang Saphan sell more of a soil additive than soil.
If there is a good place we can buy on our next trip up.

Other than soil which is available bagged at Thai Watsadu and virtually all of the places selling plants and trees, what about buying bags of cow manure (or horse manure if you can find it) which will help to condition the soil? If you look for anywhere that they have cows, they will almost certainly sell bagged manure - I pay 20 Baht for a large bag.

That would be great! I think our soil here is so sandy not much will help, but a combination of both would work.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 9:40 amOther than soil which is available bagged at Thai Watsadu and virtually all of the places selling plants and trees, what about buying bags of cow manure (or horse manure if you can find it) which will help to condition the soil? There is plenty of Bovine Ordure on here, especially in the night crawlers forum. Maybe you can collect some of it?

I get mine from a local “farm” - they have 20 or so cows so have a regular supply of waste, but where we live (near the Energy Project between CA and HH) there are lots of these mini-farms where they sell it, so I’d be surprised if you can’t find somebody local to where you live (I recall you live south of HH)?migrant wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 10:05 amThat would be great! Where I live farmers seem to have a preference for chicken poop. Apparently thousands of bags distributed on fields nearby causing a smell that has to be experienced to be believed.
As to growing things, herbs are fine as by their nature most don't get attacked by insects, snails, caterpillars etc. Vegetables you may as well put out an offering table with candles and incense and chant as your crop is being devoured. Pete
