'Wan' means sweet. Don't know if any other translation. Pete

In certain dialects it means My Great Handsome Leader whereas in other dialects it means "silly old man". Where is she from?

Just kiddding, the only meaning I know of is as alreay mentioned "sweet" as in sweety or sweetheart. A quite common Thai nickname by the way.

I'll go out on a limb here and chuck in that 'waan' can mean the verb 'ask/request' in mid tone or said with a low tone centered on the first 'a' equals the verb 'sow/cast' and a rising tone centered on the first 'a' equals sweet or sugary which is the adjective, I guess.

Maybe you could try "Mia Ja" with her (very sweet term for your wife).

In this instance waan actually means sweet and paak is mouth.

Example being Paknampran means the mouth of the river Pran.

As buksida already said 'pak' is mouth and 'wan' is sweet.
But 'wan' (shorter vocal) also means 'day'.
So I guess Phuket Wan could be translated as the Phuket Daily.

Wan can be a number of things, but given the context, it is less likely to be Waan (หวาน - long a) meaning sweet, than Wan (อัวน - short 'a'), meaning 'Fat'. :thumb:

'Fat' is (supposedly) a term of endearment in Thai!
