Thai Language Textbooks

Post by bapak »

The best known Thai language publications comes from Paiboon Publications. Their Thai for Beginners text is probably the most used textbook in the various language schools.
The Learning Centre is a distributor for Paiboon Publications and an extensive list of their publications can be found at:

Although PB1 is probably the best, it is not perfect. Its treatment of grammar is non-existent. It does a reasonable job of introducing the character set, and building the tonal concepts. The vocabulary is also an acceptable starting set. 'Every Day Thai for Beginners' by Wiworn Kesavatana-Dohrs is significantly better on grammar. The two books together make a very good starting 'combo'. Unfortunately, the one thing the 'Wiworn' book is not, is for beginners!
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....
