For Chinese, do you mean Putonghua (Mandarin) Bamboo Grove? Not sure about that dialect, but in Cantonese the word for foreigners of the Caucasian variety is "gweilo". I've heard it translated as "white ghost" (more often) and (less often) "green-eyed devil". By the way other races do have derogatory nick names as well i.e.
Indians, Malays etc - khaek (= guest)
Chinese - jek
I could be wrong (probably am ) but I don't feel that farang is meant to be quite that insulting.
