I am moving to HuaHin soon and would like to know if there is a language school in the town?
Or do you think there is no advantage to learning Thai.

Hi surfer, welcome to the board. Can't help you with the language school, but rest assured there is a huge advantage in learning at least some Thai.

Hello,
I'm new on the list. Moving in from Finland in November to stay in Cha-Am.
Learnig the Thai langue, is one om my first problems.
Is there really no language school in the Hua Hin area?

To clarify, when I said I couldn't help with a language school, I meant I don't know any personally, because I haven't looked for them in Hua Hin. There are schools here and private teachers. I'm sure if you look around HHAD, and this forum in particular, you'll see plenty of leads.

I will buy a good book to keep me busy until I return to HuaHin in Jan.

I had a good thai teacher. Her number is 032532107 or 0817632113. She is really good as she has a degree in English and speaks good English as well. I hope these numbers are still current. Her name is Ontira.

The advantage of learning Thai may not obvious at the beginning however it can certainly improve your life if you stay in Thailand permanently. I also strongly advise you to learn the script as well as this is the only way to gain a deeper understanding of the language. After some practice, you will be able to read signs on the streets, open a dictionary and look up words etc and that will help you into not being dependent on other people (your wife or girlfriend for example)

agree with Ellinas....if you have the time and patience, learn the thai script. Its a bit intimidating at the beginning but you will find pronunciation so much easier. If you are learning Thai that has been romanized, it will be very difficult to understand the tones.

Would you be wanting to learn Thai or to speak 'Yorkshire Thai'?

Seriously tho' I got a book/language course called 'Colloquial Thai',
coupla CDs in the pack,good big book, well explained,but not cheap
at around 25 quid+.
If you cannot find it in Scurribro' then they do have it in the bookshops
here in HH.
As a last note,I did a language course for 2 weeks at a place next to
the Kodak photo shop on Petkasem Rd just before the hospital going
southbound outa town. This shop doubles as a ticket agency i think.
