What action do you have in mind Liesbeth? Refusing to pay the bills? Not an option I think. Also the insurance companies are relatively happy with claims from Thailand. Overcharged or not, they are not as steep as the claims they receive from tourists who went to France, Sweden, Switzerland etc.

Cannot say anything about the medical standards of San Paulo besides that I also hear many complaints, but looking at it pure financially I prefer to avoid it. They built a fancy hospital at an AAA-location and are targetting tourists who are well insured back home and well-to-do mostly retired expats who compare the bill with medical care costs back home. Both groups cannot be bothered with the price.

If you are on a budget or on a Thai salary you better avoid San Paulo.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

I know that being a farang you pay more and in many cases i don't even mind because you want the people to earn something too. I just think SP is taking to much advantage and profit of foreign people. And if at least the treatments, diagnoses and care would have been good (not even talking about excellent...) i would not even mind, but we have had not 1 bad case but at least 10 bad cases now in 4 months....and all cases with wrong diagnoses, or wrong medication and very high prices.
Besides the difference between charges of doctors fee is extreemly big.
For a visit at the Policlinic i pay THB 150 and stayed inside for 15 minutes with the docter....At SP my son stayed inside not even 3 minutes and the doctors fee was THB 1600........Now that feels like being cheated, even if compared to Holland it's not much and even if the insurance is paying...!
I'm not the kind of persons that thinks...ooo insurance pay the bill so what do i care about the price....it's all about the fact of feeling cheated and not have been cured correctly.

For sofar thanks to everybody for your reply on this topic!
Have a great day, Liesbeth

San Paulo

In the years I have lived here we have used San Paulo and luckily always had good experiences, but because cost is an issue we now go to the Poly Clinic. The Doctor we see there is excellent. I just had my annual checkup and he was thorough and the price was good. :D

I had to go there last week following an injury and whilst I was seen very quickly there was clearly more emphasis on getting the money side sorted out before the medical care.

I was charged a tad over 600 Baht for medication, which when I renewed in a Pharmacy in Bangkok only cost 220 Baht. Probably not worth getting too excited about, but multiply the overcharging and it adds up.

Just a doctor consultation and no equpiment tests or prescription? Never been charged anywhere near that.
Have always used them for minor stuff and its been fine and cheap everytime. For anything major always use Samitivej in Bangkok, even cheaper VFM wise.

If they were so bad, why did you keep on returning? If they were so bad, shouldn't you have learnt your lesson after maybe 4 or 5 consequetive disasters?

10 times :? either somebody is a glutton for punishment, or is there a clue in your forum name?

It also comes to the story tha if it hasn't been for SP my daughter wouldn't been alive today. They solved her issue where others failed.
Hervelon wrote:well in their defence i had to attend the hospital 3 times in june and july 08 with my young son for ear & eye infection...as well as for an older relative... the diagnosis given was correct and the price of the examination and medications were fair... never felt overcharged...

Their surgeon is really quite good. Dr. Boripan. If he is still there, and you end up at San Paulo somehow or the other. . .ask for him. He is excellent and speaks very good English.

Had to go there for my kid a couple of time and the pediatrics didn't even charged us. He also said that if he wasn;t here we should go to Mr sumet clinic which seems to be the one everyone goes to. ( long long queue)

New Hospital

Post by canthai »

I thought there was a new hospital built. The top two floors are for the King as I understand. Is this true and if so why has no one used it to date?

If you're talking about San Paulo, what made you think that?

No DM, he's not talking about San Paulo.
It's about the "new" Hua Hin public Hospital, but if they have a royal suite or not I don't know.
Maybe the government is planning to build another new modern hospital in HH?
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

Big Boy,

I was thinking the same thing and if Liesbeth ever comes to visit me (I don't know him/her) then I'm outta that house as they must be the unluckiest family out and walking disasters.

As for the new hospital...isn't it on the left of Petchkasem Road towards Chaam and in the vicinity of the green painted garden centre close to the pedestrian overbridge. It's a 7 or 9 storey building.

I’m not sure if the new Hua Hin hospital annex is finished yet, I live near there when in Hua Hin and it certainly wasn’t about two months ago.
I’ve also heard that it would have a facility for royal use, but I don’t know about two full floors.

The hospital in question is a government hospital, so I doubt very much that they are running advertisements. One of the big private hospitals, (maybe Bangkok Hospital Group?) is supposed to be building a new facility in Hua Hin, so perhaps that is the start of that.

Sarge, you go to that government hospital, can you find out the progress on the new wing, as it appears to be still under construction?
