Vitamin supplements can interfere with any medication people take...especially older folks and you should consult the Doc if your father is on any medication for blood pressure or other stuff etc. However, a supplement that is gaining ground in numerous ways (including potency) and popularity at the moment is Astaxanthin (8-12 mg a day), which is believed to be benfitial in many ways (joints, heart health, raises metabolism, improves male ferility, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol plus more) as well as being one of the most powerful anti oxidants ever found.

Essentially, it's what salmon, krill, lobster or other things eat to gain the orange reddish colour and is credited as a major reason why these foods are so healthy to eat for us........it's a very powerful carotenoid and has become available as a supplement you can buy from Boots/Watsons and those sort of places.

As an example, salmon is a grey white meated fish and only becomes oranged fleshed when it starts eating this stuff. Without eating this stuff it is a very average fish but when it eats this stuff (which is what it is believed to do at sea before it goes to spawn in rivers) it's become the super strong fish we all know with the ability to swim upstream and scale waterfalls.....all this is credited to it's consumption of this stuff.

It might be what you are looking for. As with all supplements there are a lot of bogus ones out there for sale so make sure you check the quality of what you are buying. You can also probably order it online from the US, some companies deliver to Thailand like Swansons etc.

There is a real doctor that sometimes visits the forum and maybe he'll see your post and give some more qualified thoughts.

Looks to me like a delicately phrased request for advice on where to buy Viagra.

Yes DM, that did cross my mind. However, I thought I'd play it down-the-middle and he asked for vitamins so vitamins it was. :thumb:

LP - Google "Health benefits of Astaxanthin" and you'll find plenty on it and is probably the easiest way to start reserching it on medical websites. Often refered to as "The best supplement you've never heard of that you should be taking" and has been used and known of for a long time in Japan, China and far east....only just catching on in the west. The list is long of what it can reportedly do for you (including what I mentioned above in the first post) it's reported to be good at lowering insulin resistance in type 2 or pre-diabetics, very benefitial to the nervous system as can cross the blood brain barrier to the grey stuff which most anti-oxidants can't, doesn't ever become pro-oxidant which some others do/can under some circumstances and that's bad.

Not cheap......but certainly worth it imo.

I have taken it for a month now at 8 mg a day (comes in 4 mg capsules) and I have noticed a big difference already to energy levels, large reduction in joint discomfort to the point where I don't have any at all, walking much better after I had a broken leg a couple of years ago, no pins and needles in extremeties which I sometimes got and in the morning I feel like I want to get up, get out the house and at it (life) so-to-speak. My blood pressure has gone down as I monitor it at home with a machine (now normal blood pressure) and generally feel great and 'Tip-top' which I haven't done so for a long time.....and a renewed fervour for life is just what I've wanted and is most welcome, I feel great man.

That's just what I've noticed after a month of taking it and it's list of benefits are almost too long to mention here but Google it and make your own mind up. I shall continue to take this supplement, and even though I don't take many, as this one is the business (along with grape seed extract, magnesuim, bilberry extract and a calcium/vitamin d one too), I reckon.

Hope that helped..........

You should be able to buy it at Watsons, Boots or somewhere like that.

Here's a pic of a brand or two that should be available around where you are fairly easily.

What you are looking for is that it is made from haematococcus pluvialis which is the algae that produces astaxanthin when it gets dry as a protection against the sunlight. Needless to say, astaxanthin is reported to be a great sun block agent for your skin and improves the condition of skin noticably.

........and BTW, NO...you don't turn orange if you take this supplement......lol.

Oh...forgot, when you ask for it, it's pronounced Asta-zan-thin otherwise they (health shop assistant) will give you the 'look at you as if you just landed from outer space' routine.

Anatolli - you may also be interested in Fucoxanthin, which is from the same family of compounds and usually sourced from brown seaweed.
