I've put your appeal onto our Facebook page, and shared it elsewhere. Hope it all works out.

Update

Contacted the doctor at the university who has records of students blood groups and now have 4 potential donors so far. Why the hospitals do not think of such a simple thing is beyond belief.

I'm assuming that would have been Julia Prouse from one of the Facebook areas I shared it to. She asked me how to get in contact, and I advised her to use one of the phone numbers posted on the forum.

Thanks again BB 2 people have made contact through your efforts. Enough for the first transfusion has already been given to keep him going last night but he will need more in a few days. This town really needs a bloodbank and a register of potential donors on a simple database that all the hospitals can access.

I agree - we seem to get an appeal like yours on a very regular basis. It always gives us a warm feeling to be able to help the community, but you are correct, its such a vital life saving element, it shouldn't be left to the fate of an appeal.

Strange that there has to be an appeal for A+ one of the most common, its O- that is usually in short supple along with B- and AB-

A+ blood needed

I have just tried to donate, in response to the OP, some A+ but it was refused as I am over 55.

I would think that this policy could prevent a lot of potential donors of more Western blood types, given the demographics of the Huahin area.

So if you want to donate you may have to lie about your age.

I am sure that a patient in urgent need of the correct blood type will not care about this ridiculous policy.

In the UK one can donate up to 70, and beyond in certain cases.

You may already have explored these avenues if there is an ongoing need for full blood product it may be worthwhile contacting the Red Cross in Thailand as they do operate a blood bank. If your friend is in need of a blood component it may be worthwhile to contact the major fractionators i.e.: Commonwealth serum laboratories (CSL) or Baxters or their reps in Thailand. Hopefully the screening and allegen tests go well on donated full blood product destined for your friend.

I am in HH this weekend (live in BKK bit down at weekends) and I'm A+. Would be available on Sat to donate if it's open and still needed. Send me details of where to go and I'll come along. Happy to help.

I would willingly donate my A+ but I'm just recovering from a serious bout of food poisoning so I'm sure it wouldn't be welcome. However, I do echo 'Oakdales' comment. Why does there need to be an appeal for the 2nd most common blood type next to O+??

Sincere thanks to you all :D My friend is now out of hospital but will need further transfusions in the near future and for the rest of his life. The red cross did not have any available A+
