Air Quality?

Post by PeteC »

What is the general state of this in HH? Do you mainly get your breeze from the sea, thus eliminating dust, or do you accumulate it in and on everything like we do here in Pattaya?

I know you don't have the car and factory emissions down there that we do so my hope is the quality is quite a bit better than here. Pete

I’ve never noticed any problems with air quality around Hua Hin Pete, as you point out, there is no heavy industry anywhere nearby.

It has been very hazy for the past couple of weeks , visibility down to a couple of kilometres some days , it's not industrial pollution and its not brownish like smog , I would guess that its coming up from the crop burning they do in Indonesia.

Normally the air quality here is very good.

I have always found the air quality in HH to be very good. The breeze blowing in from the gulf (sometimes fairly gusty) does seem to clear any pollution and since we are away for months at a time I would notice the accumulation of airborne dust on our return. There never seems to be any. The sea breeze also seems to keep the mozzie problem down.

I walked the beach this morning. It was hazy, as others have said. Nevertheless, a week ago, there was a big "wash-up" of debris from heaven knows where. Maybe from floods in Bangkok and washing down?
The weather men on TV will always say that's it's down to some front from China bringing colder air in????
Sure, but I wonder if this annual "wonder of the world" also coincides with slash and burn techniques further south?
Seems to happen here every year????

I’ve just been looking at wind-speed and direction statistics for Hua HIn, and it does seem that in November and December there is a shift to predominant winds from the NE, so maybe Lomu’s weather man is right.

I think it depends on how near you are to a construction site and whether the Soi you are on is sealed or not? A non-sealed road with a construction site there or thereabouts will leave a fine layer of "soot" on your car each morning. So I guess its breathed as well?

If you can see the particles of dust or soot they are too big to harm you.
The very fine particles are the ones to worry about.
Wearing a fabric mask will not protect you.So the Bangkok cops on road traffic duty are at serious risk.
