Hello from Australia

Post by maccastime »

Good evening Expats.I was contemplating retiring in 20010 to Hua Hin.I have not been to Hua Hin as yet, however i plan on making a trip in the middle of 010,and checking out the area,i would rent for a while, then maybe buy.My Thai lady friend will be staying with me,but from time to time will be heading to Suphanbury to her family home.
So a few questions if anyone can assist,i would be most appreciative.
Is Hua Hin a better town than Jomtien? i was looking at retiring there..but it had not changed for the better for some years.Dirty beach,Soys the same.
Can any kind person suggest a good area to rent.
What is the best way to transfer monies to Thailand

Many thanks

Hi maccastime,

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll find the other members very helpful in answering your questions.

Taking your first question:
Is Hua Hin a better town than Jomtien?
It really depends what you are looking for. To me, it's a bit like comparing chalk & cheese. Jomtien, being linked so closely with Pattaya is more on the seedier side. Hua Hin is far more laid back, and definitely not so much 'in your face.'

The problem is that you are asking people on a Hua Hin Forum, who will mainly have a bias towards Hua Hin. I think your planned visit in mid 2010 is the way to go, and you can make up your own mind.

Regarding rental, take a hotel for a couple of days, and take a look around. There's always plenty on offer to rent.

For transfer of money, I suggest you take a look at the Forum's Finance section.

That's a very long time from now. I hope you figure out a way to retire sooner. :D

Welcome to the forum.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
