Hi there afterdarkimhandsome,
My father and myself came here for the first time in jan 2000 (my mum died in the September of 1999 and we both wanted to go somewhere new for a break). after a few days it become obvious that HH was an opportunity for a much better lifestyle, we got some money together and Dick (my dad) came out in June and bought Jungle Juice. Wer then opened Johnniw Walkers in October of 2002 and i ran that until March 2005. Went home for 3 months then came back to sell property here which is good fun and much better for the brain.
I play lots of golf and love life here in Thailand.
My only gripes with Thailand are the driving here - not just thai people by the way, you see farnag doing equally crazy manoeuvers also! And the folks who come here because they cant handle life in thier own country, NOT those who come with a level head for a better life. These are the ones who complain about everything because they are socially inept. Constructive criticism is fine but general slagging off of the people here and the country is not acceptable.
Let the board know when you are arriving and be cool to have a few beers.
Cheers

OK, here goes:
What you do in Hua Hin? Rest - Play (Work?)
I work, teaching at a Government School (that's what they call it, anyway!)
Are you in Hua Hin or holiday there?
I live here, & plan to keep doing so.
How young you are? (politically correct)
I'm 49, & my wife is . . . CLASSIFIED!
How did you end up in Hua Hin?
We visited here whilst looking for places to retire in. We liked it a lot so we bought a place. However, the ratrace became too much for us & so we brought our plans forward. We're both working, in different ways, but it's a lot less stressful than Tokyo, where we used to live.
And most important where do all you friendly people hang out in Hua Hin?
We live on the northern edge of HH, so I rarely go downtown except to work. I have been known to lunch at the Admiral, & even assist brewery profits at the verandah-type place near the Chinese temple by the Hilton beachfront. Other places will be visited in due course! However, with the rugby scene getting very interesting next month, I shall probably be doing most of my brewers-aid work in front of the TV at home!
The Hua Hin Residents' Club,
for everyone who calls Hua Hin home.

JW - Really sorry to here that, please accept my condolonces. I can understand that as in June last year my grandfather died who i lived with and seen more as a father, we lived together alone so were best friends as well. I am coming to Thailand to get away from the family arguing over who gets what, i dont care the most important thing was losing my grandfather / friend. The rest can keep everything, as i felt i already lost everything. ot to be sad though as my grandad was a fun time guy, and i even made a last joke for him whilst i read a speach at his funeral, he left me a note asking to be read out at his funeral - he told everyone not to worry as he was going to a better place, he said it must be because no one has ever came back ! thats the type of guy he was... sorry to run on a bit ! buts its still fresh

Went home for 3 months then came back to sell property here which is good fun and much better for the brain. Im coming to Hua Hin to sample life there for 6 months after that ill be looking at buying so maybe we could meet up and have a chat about that.

I play lots of golf and love life here in Thailand. JW you suddenly sound as though you could be a very good friend, im desperate for a game of golf, the weather isnt an use in Scotland this time of year

Let the board know when you are arriving and be cool to have a few beers. JW - i will be in Hua Hin on the 26th of Feb staying for a few weeks to sort out accomodation, before i go off to work again for a month. Any invitations for a beer much appreciatted...Thanks for your response ! Take care Darren

Do you teach any particular subject or do you complete the whole curriculum as a primary teacher.

Thanks again

Hiya afterdarkyimhandsomly

Well I'll introduce myself to everyone else. I'm currently living in NZ, people ask me why I'm leaving such a great place to come to Thailand... all I can say is it bores me to tears. I'm ready for excitement, frustration, new experiences, etc. I'm coming over with my 7.5 year old girl, the coolest kid in the world. Again, people are telling me I'll never make it but I disbelieve. My only problem is that I don't have a degree (but do have a Diploma and a TESOL) and I am planning to teach English. However I know people who have taught there and they said I can do it, I just won't get a top job. I don't want a top job. Just enough income to get by happily. Am trying to email schools in HH but not having much luck, they keep bouncing back. Emailed a guy at weci back in Sept and he was keen to hear from me later, and that the no degree was fine as they were a private school, but emailed him the other day and even that came back.

If anyone has an addy for Somtawin school, please PM me!

I look forward to meeting some of you, I really hope to find employment in HH as I have my heart set on living there.

Hi Darren.
I have been going to Hua Hin for apx the last 4 years and have now decided to buy a place. Should be finished when i get there this trip.
Still working 4 weeks & 4 weeks in West Africa. A bit like yourself in Egypt.
Looking forward to settling down over there in a few years time and really chilling out. Go to the Shed quite often with the wife and will be over there from 4 Feb for 3 weeks.

JW, i will be in your pub offering to buy you a drink as soon as im in Hua Hin. Its not true about us scotsman being tight  Closer to the time, or when im in Hua Hin ill let you know !

Westie / Keith, thanks for the response. The number of people that say that Hua Hin is beautiful it has me convinced 100% its where i want to live, all the friendly people on here makes it seem perfect. Yes im lucky to work 4 and 4, i take it oil and gas as WELL (Pardon the pun)?..... Im going to try Hua Hin for 6 months and then decide upon buying a house. When is your next trip planned for? Are you going to be staying in your house this time around ? Chilling out is a must, slow the pace right down.

Take care
Darren

What you do in Hua Hin? Work, teaching job

Are you in Hua Hin or holiday there? Not there yet but I'm hoping to stay a few years.

How young you are? 23

How did you end up in Hua Hin? I did a teaching internship in Bangkok for two months. It's there that I fell in love with Thailand. So one day, I told one of my collegues that I was interested in teaching in Thailand. Next thing I knew, I was offered a job as English teacher at their Hua Hin campus. I have to complete my courses first (graduating in 2 weeks) and after that, I'm moving straight to Hua Hin.
It's a small world after all...

Congratulations concerning your graduation coming up and, your assignment which seems to be what you want to do. I do not live in HH but some advice, only hang out with the older local expats from this forum. They are intelligent, straight shooters, benevolent, handsome, open minded, and will set you on the correct course concerning life in LOS. Best of luck, have fun and be productive with the kids/adults you're teaching, and most of all have fun. Pete
