Hello all! Looking to move to Hua Hin!

Post by jonnyt »

Hi guys, I was directed here by a member on another forum and I must say, cracking site!

I've recently taken up residence with a Thai girl and with both of us unkeen on staying in Bangkok, Pattaya, or anywhere of this ilk I have sought the advice of many people of the best places to go to for our requirements. Somewhere where we can live "normally", but still go a bit wild if we want to. About 80% have said Hua Hin, and the rest Koh Phi Phi.

So I have come to the site to learn a little more about the place. I like what I see, and I shall be visiting for a short period sometime soon to get an idea for myself, though I am not fussy and I am sure I will take up residence for at least a couple of months, perhaps permanently if I like it. A good friend of mine told me it's the perfect place to go so I will hold his opinion.

I am looking for recommendations on inexpensive hotels near the attractions (Marriot is a no go) for a week or so before making a final decision, then if I decide to stay I will be looking for an apartment with cable/Internet (I work on the 'net), pool and gym on a month by month basis.

Wow, a bit more than an introduction here, but hi all the same and if anyone can assist me in my adventure the San Miguel Lights are on me!

Best,
Jonny

Thanks for the welcome mate!

I will be sure to visit all the places in the area.. I really am looking for exactly what Hua Hin is, basically like home except with a beach and nice weather.

I'll have a good browse around I'm sure most of what I need to know is covered, except the place where you need 30 posts :D

Look forward to being part of the board and maybe the community soon..

Hi Jonnyt,

I recently settled in Hua Hin due to new job overhere. I stay at Sport Villa. 8,000 Baht a month for one room apartment plus electricity/water bill (depending on how much you use the aircon I would say between 1,000 and 2,000 extra). The room has standard a TV with cable and hot water (bath tub/shower) and a fridge. There are two pools (free of charge) and a gym (very basic though, do not know how far you plan to get on the Schwarzenegger scale; 40 Baht per session, I believe they have monthly rates). Small internet shop (40 Baht/hour) I guess you can plug in your laptop there or use Hutch in your room. Laundry service available (regular prices). Secure motorbike and car parking. Very good inexpensive restaurant. I can recommend it.
Maybe see you soon then.
Welcome to Hua Hin.

If you want a nice and reasonable hotel in the centre of town, then stay in the Thipurai. It's low season, so they're usually quiete amenable to a bit of haggling on prices too.

Hi Jim and Roel..

Thank you very much for the advice. I have looked up Sport Villa and it looks great for the price (I am willing to pay upto 20k/mnth but why not pay 10k for somewhere good??).

I have bookmarked both:

EDIT: I'm not allowed to posts links on my account yet!

Jim - re: Sport Villa - I would need an Internet connection in the room.. is it commonplace in Hua Hin in general to able to do integrate this facility, should it not be currently available? In Pattaya I was able to telephone a local company and they brought a modem round.. 3k/mnth for 2mb connection. I know that's a bit over the odds but it was in the hub of a tourist area. I work on the Internet so it's important I find somewhere that can accomodate this. Looks great though and I will be sure to check it out..

Thanks again and maybe see you soon!

Jed Pee Nong and PP Villa are both great locations for around 1000 baht.

I looked up PP Villa. It's a tad more than 1,000 baht per day. More like 1,000 baht every 2 hours! still it does look very good.

Heres the lowdown on internet connections in hua hin:

And here are some accommodation options, though most are pricey for long stay ... you're better off renting a house if your stay is over a couple of months:

I have decided on either Top Marks Hotel or Thipurai based on reading through the searches here and having a look on the site in regards to my hotel stay.

Which would you recommend for being Central and near to the beach with Internet options?

Thanks for the Internet link buksida, but.. I was just curious.. is it going to be a problem looking for a condo on a month-by-month basis? I'm not sure if I'm going to stay 3 weeks or 3 years, so would be looking for a "rolling" type of condo agreement. it also means I could move somewhere else if I didn't like it. Is it a big problem to request Internet access in a rented condo on a month by month basis. Would I have to see if the condo had a particular type of phone line, i.e. broadband/adsl enabled? Do all condos for rent have a phone line installed (apart from the stupidly cheap ones).

Had to be a stickler, and thanks for the advice, I just want to make sure I am very clear to the condo agents about what I want & need so they can best serve me and get me what I want asap.

Thanks
J

Don't know about Thipurai, but in Top Marks you'll get free Wi-Fi, so that's one less monthly expense.

Maybe another 200/300 meters far away, compared to Thipurai City Hotel,(but if you were asking about Thipurai Guesthouse, that's 3+/- kms away from Town Center anyway) just look at the nightlife map here:

yep was talking about the city hotel.. didn't realise there was only 200-300 metres distance between those two hotels it "looks" much bigger.. I guess the hub of Hua Hin i.e. this map is not so great and everywhere is walkable? i.e. doghouse to hilton

it sounds kindof stupid that I am planning to move to Hua Hin without ever visiting but my true trusted friend said it's really the only place that fits the description of what I'm looking for. I'll give it a month or two at the very least, I'm sure I'll love it
