Young Verstappen comes through winning his first one of the season, and Hamilton/Mercedes seem to have some worries about his car even though Hamilton increases his Championship lead to 59 points with five races remaining.

JJBones and Pete had the best race with 13.5 points, but JJB takes it based upon type of points. The top three remains Pitsch, Pete and RZR.
Next up is the Japanese GP this coming weekend. Good luck to all! Pete

Re: 2017 F1 News and Prediction Tournament
^ Why Bottas? Would certainly be a little harsh on him IMO. If it ever does come around, I could actually see Hamilton staying Stateside (he does love it) and trying his hand at NASCAR. He'll have accomplished pretty much all he can in F1.

Re: 2017 F1 News and Prediction Tournament
^ I didn't think of that but you could very well be right. I haven't read anything about what Hamilton wants to do with his future, but a Championship this year and perhaps next year would allow him to go out on a high. He's coming up on 33 in January so 2 more seasons would retire him right before he turns 35, which I guess is about right for an F1 driver. Pete

Yes, rain over Japan, heavy, today. Just minutes ago, the satelite picture
I was asked to assign my engineers to be on duty today when they (Renault) set up the gear for processing and displaying the results and times for Sunday.
Young men, fought who is going to get the free pass and be near the van (truck) with computers and enjoy the race for free. It is all our computer gear.
Suzuka is about 45mins by car from me. Been to the "Motor Entertainment Park" many times, that is former Honda (factory nearby) car testing ground.
"Suzuka" means the carriage with bells that Santa uses to ferry and deliver Xmas presents.

Re: 2017 F1 News and Prediction Tournament
What Max Verstappen’s new deal at Red Bull means for Daniel Ricciardo
https://thewest.com.au/sport/motorsport ... b88636084z
All the speculation around Max Verstappen’s Formula 1 future is now at an end.
The Dutchman has signed a new three-year deal to stick with the Red Bull Formula 1 team, tying himself to energy drink giant until the end of the 2020
But what does that mean for Daniel Ricciardo? All the burning questions over Verstappen’s new deal ...
SO HOW LONG IS THE EXTENSION FOR?
Verstappen’s previous deal with Red Bull was due to expire at the end of 2019 so at face value his new contract only amounts to a one-year extension. But plenty in the paddock believe Verstappen’s previous agreement with Red Bull contained an opt-out clause which may have allowed him to leave the team at the end of next season if they failed to meet certain performance targets.
Given that Daniel Ricciardo’s deal with the team expires at the end of 2018, the nightmare scenario of Red Bull losing both halves of a line-up considered to be the strongest in F1 makes their money-no-object determination to retain Verstappen entirely understandable, both from a sporting and commercial perspective. That extra one year is priceless for Red Bull.

USA F1 Grand Prix 2017 Qualifying: Lewis Hamilton Dominates Friday Practice
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2739 ... y-practice
Lewis Hamilton set the fastest times over each of the first two practice races for the 2017 USA Formula 1 Grand Prix at Austin, Texas on Friday. Hamilton also posted the fastest-ever lap on the Circuit of the Americas.
Hamilton finished faster than Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel in P1 and was quicker than Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing in P2. The Formula 1 official Twitter account detailed the finishing times at the end of P2: (all results table)
P1 Recap
Before then, Hamilton was the quickest during a P1 session blighted by tricky conditions caused by mixed weather. A murky and wet day made the going tough on the Circuit of the Americas, but Hamilton didn't seem to mind.
While Hamilton dealt well with the conditions, more than one of the other drivers struggled. Among them, Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo spent most of P1 struggling to stay on the track.
Ultimately, the Australian couldn't manage it and his slide off the circuit led to a 16th-place finish.
Ricciardo had his problems, but teammate Verstappen did manage to fare better. The 20-year-old finished fourth fastest on the day he signed a new contract to stay with Red Bull until 2020, per the team's official website.
There was also a rude awakening for debutant Brendon Hartley, with the Porsche driver hit with a 25-place grid penalty by FIA after internal changes to his vehicle, per Andrew Benson of BBC Sport:
