World Cup

Post by Tunafish »

Just seen an ad on True Visions for upcoming sporting events in the coming 3 months, and of course,
no mention of the World Cup. I assume that True is going to screw their customers, yet again......
Does anyone know what we have to do to watch it? (apart from leaving the country that is)

Thanks guys for your prompt replies.
I find it strange that True does not advertise this. Their sporting "highlight" for June are the NBA play-offs. Well, good luck with that, ha ha.

Any point of advertising something all providers of tv have really? It is going to be on the public Thai channels.

Thai fans can watch all Fifa World Cup matches live

The Sports Authority of Thailand has confirmed local broadcasting rights for the World Cup football finals in Russia, clearing the way for Thai fans to watch the tournament live on free TV.

The SAT said on Friday all matches will be broadcast, showing on at least two channels - one operated by True Vision and also on Amarin TV.

True Vision is operated by Charoen Pokphand Group of the Chiawaranon family. The conglomerate has two channels. Amarin TV is controlled by another tycoon family, the Sirivadanabhakdis.

The SAT said seven firms have agreed to pool 1.4 billion baht to buy the rights to show the tournament on Thai stations.

Details of the settlement among Thai companies after long negotiations will be announced by SAT board chairman Prawit Wongsuwon on Monday.

Gen Prawit is also deputy prime minister and defence minister. He is on a seven-day official visit to the US Defense Department, ending on Friday.

Russia will host the 2018 Fifa World Cup from June 14-July 15. Thirty teams will take part in the tournament, playing 64 matches in all in 11 cities across the country.

Not sure what has changed since the last posting, but the following is being reported:
......................................................................................................................
World Cup to be live streamed free, in full

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... ee-in-full

Football fans learned Monday they will be able to watch all 64 matches of the 2018 Fifa World Cup live and free of charge on TrueVisions, Amarin TV and Royal Thai Army Radio and Television Channel 5 from June 14 until July 15.

The news was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon in his capacity as chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, although the football World Cup is entirely separate from the Olympics.

Viewers will be able to watch the matches on True4U 24, Amarin TV 34 and Channel 5.

Gen Prawit said a contract to live broadcast the World Cup games from Russia had already been secured and signed with Fifa under a cooperative agreement between the Tourism and Sports Ministry and nine companies.

The nine companies that helped fund the broadcast rights, which cost about 1.4 billion baht, are King Power Group, Charoen Pokphand (CP), Thai Beverage, Kasikornbank, Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS), Gulf Energy Development, PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC), Bangchak Corporation and Carabao Dang.

Sports Authority of Thailand governor Sakol Wannapong said they are providing the money to help the government acquire broadcasting rights to the World Cup to please Thai fans.

Mr Sakol said each company contributed different amounts. King Power Group, CP, Kasikornbank, BTS, Thai Beverage and Gulf Energy Development each invested 200 million baht, PTTGC 100 million baht and Bangchak Corp and Carabao Dang 50 million baht.

"It's like a gift for all Thai football fans. I believe they will be happy," Mr Sakol said.

The contract was signed after King Power Group faced a delay in the wake of being appointed to broker the deal on behalf of the nine companies, Gen Prawit said.

The contract was signed by Infront Sports & Media, which holds the rights to live broadcast the 2018 World Cup in Asia, he added.
