Probably repeating what might have been said earlier in this thread, but apart from Everton / Chang, Singha have the beer outlet at Stamford Bridge (Chelsea) and also either at the scousers or Man U. Both beers widley available in the UK and stocked by most supermarkets.

I would buy Leo if available in the UK, that and Archa are my Thai tipple of choice.

Still Carlsberg at Anfield despite getting a new sponsor, I can't say I'd go out of my way to get any Thai beer when in England but I drink Leo, did drink Archa for a while as it's cheap and tastes ok, it's a bit artificially gassy though so I've started splashing out an extra 5 baht.

doggles,
I don't think Chang would have splashed out big money to advertise on Everton shirts if the brew was not available in the UK.
I was a Chang drinker but like many of my friends, have switched over to Leo. Singha has a nasty taste (to me) reminding me of Labatt's (Canadian) which is a filtered version of weasel piss.[/quote]

Agree with the Singha nasty taste after a while, for me the Chang in Europe is a very different beast to the moonshine in Thailand. Remember getting excited after seeing it in a local bar and expected the full fireworks, alas it tasted very watered down.

Maybe because I was drinking in the rainy UK rather than some tropical paradise (& paying £3.50 rather than 40B).
So never refuse an invitation, never resist the unfamiliar, never fail to be polite and never outstay the welcome.

I was in a Thai cafe here a couple of weeks ago and they even had a bottle of Mehkong behind the bar but I noticed it was still nearly full!
The Cobra is all marketing, I think its all brewed in the UK. Best thing for a spicy curry is either a flat ale or a glass of wine. The fizz in the lager makes the spices worse on the tongue.
That goes against what even your winebuffs and top chefs say. I, personally, would have lager with an Indian or other spicy dish.

Or better, depending on how you like your spices!

doggles, rain and high prices will definitely affect the taste of the beer! I find, too, that pretty girls improve the taste!

Singha in the US wholesales at about USD 1.33 (40bt) and retails in Thai restaurants at 3.50 to 5.00 (105bt - 150bt) smalll bottles! definitely no bgs and usually no entertainment. To make matters worse, it tastes, IMHO, much worse than in Thailand.

Those of us that remember Thailand before Chang, Leo, etc. might have more of an attachment to Singha. It's unique flavor, for better or worse, was Thailand. There was Kloster and Carlsberg, but Singha controlled the market. I still prefer Singha in Thailand (friends that visit and my 23 year old son don't). I'm sure much of my attachement is related to associated memories from way back. :D

I like the taste of Singha. For me it is to Thai Lager, what Kronenbourg is to 'English' (as in popular in England) Lager - the only Lager that has any kind of unique flavour. That said, I find Singha tastes a little odd after a Chang, or a Leo, or whatever. The same can be said for a pint of Kronenbourg after a Henieken, Carlsberg or Fosters though.

A lager compliments the flavours but does indeed probably add a bit if kazam to the spice. Drinking anything (especially alcoholic) to try and cull a burning tongue is pretty futile, though. In fact liquids, after the intimidate short-term relief (which is finished before you've even had a chance to put the glass down), tend to increase the sensation.

I'm not really a wine buff but am crazy about Issan and Thai food, so like it very spicy. I agreed that lager rules until my brother (wine buff) got me into Alsace wine. Really sweet by itself but in combination with a really spicy papaya salad or Guay Teow noodle soup the taste profile changes to lychee! Complements the food amazingly and am now hooked, recommend Thai food fans give it a try.

Unfortunately last time I was in Bkk a bottle in a restaurant ended up costing me 2300B  Lesson learned about Thai import tax and sticking to the lager whilst on holiday

Thank you for the advice but I think I'll stick to a bottle of Leo!

Singha is certainly pushing Leo. A few yrs ago many restos didn't carry it and I never saw anyone buy it. Now its everywhere and Leo girls as well. A response I think to Chang's sales increases
