That could very well be the case. A friend of mine was over from the UK about three months ago and we ended up there one night, and all but one closed at around 3am. Never saw any police there though, and also no sign of any trouble. To the contrary, it was rather dead, which could also explain why the bars shut early on that particular night?

You wouldn't see police in uniforms anyway. Plain clothes ones yeah and also many bars do have police connections. Ownership can be family or police g/f or big tea money places

Correct, was told that at Billy's last night.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I was down there about 10 months ago now, had a great time and I was travelling solo except for the company I had, meaning I was the only farang. I never felt any danger, maybe it was the beer ha ha.

Is it only the karaoke bars that are open late? Are there not any other areas in town?

Was down there in June and the standoff between the local police chief and the army guy trying to impose rules meant that the karaoke bars(and night club)were being closed down at 1 am.The night club then opened up again about 30 minutes later and off we went again!Don't know what the story is now but hope it's improved a bit for when I 'm back in town in a couple of weeks!
