Low Season Trip Report

Post by ahandpatsy »

I thought it might be amusing for you guys to get some feedback from my recent trip to Hua Hin and other parts of Thailand.

Whilst not being up to the legendary standards of Gus I hope you will find it interesting.

This is not a nightcrawlers type reports but suffice to say I had the pleasure of two "tourguides" during my stay neither of which are BG's but I have met previously on one of my many trips to this part of the world.

Not a day by day account but some of the more interesting (maybe) events.

I have no axe to grind with anybody or anyplace. Happy for chats and pi** takes about what I write but don't get angry or offended life is too short.

So Tourguide1 (TG1) has a new job in a Pattaya bank so as it was a public holiday I had arranged to meet in Bangkok for the weekend and then spend a couple of days in Pattaya.

So meet her at the airport then off to hotel. We missed each other, I go to hotel the wrong one (thankyou Centara for naming your hotels so similarly). Finally get hold of her and I am commanded to get back to airport. 4 hours she waited poor thing. In the doghouse and I had a lot of making up to do.

I have never really stayed in Bangkok before and I don't like it to be honest. Just too busy. I spent more time in traffic jams than anything. Was taken to a place to eat by a tuk tuk. TG1 chose the food and sure enough was relieved of next to 3000 baht !!!

We went to visit a few places (Asiatique ?) but they just amounted to places to trudge around and buy stuff for your Tilak or did not want.

Sunday was to be dedicated to going to see her daughter in Kanchanaburi. Drive was just scary 140 kmh. Anyway so I was presented to her 15 year old kid. What are you supposed to do in this situation. Try to appear cool (impossible). The daughter basically sees you as some strange freaky guy shagging her mum so...

The plan now was to leave at 3 pm to travel to Pattaya. I was told it would take 4 and half hours. I had already spent 3 hours on the way here so another 4.5 on the same day was going to be tough.

We got to Bangkok and we hit massive traffic jams........and then we had a storm. The journey to Pattaya itself took 8 hours !! During the torrential rain I thought my life was to end 4 times at least. We arrived in Patts at about 10/:30 and then spent 30 minutes trying to find a hotel that nobody had ever heard of. Tired and a little frosty with each other we fell into bed and listened to the delights of the all night disco pumping out from the place a few yards down the road.

More about Patts later

I think that might be enough for most of us

As long as it remains clean it can remain on the public board, else it will have to be moved to NC.

When nosy expats ask how can i live here without working, i reply, 'well, while you worked hard for 50 years, i worked smart for 5 years' :D

Thanks for the compliments and many thanks for submitting your TR, you must be exhausted.
I found during my last trip most of the boxes had now been ticked regarding the Bar Girls.
As Clint Eastwood said, A man's gotta know his limits.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.
