R.I.P. Anthony Bourdain

Post by migrant »

Those who have not seen, or read, some of his food related travels should. He was found dead, apparent suicide.

Various shows and books, last series was 5, or so, years on CNN.

IMHO a great talent, RIP

A huge shock for me last night. :( The last photos taken of him in April showed a somewhat gaunt and not well looking man for age 61. He was a smoker for a long time and it wouldn't surprise me if an autopsy reveals he was suffering from cancer. We may never know though. RIP Anthony, you gave me and many others a lot of enjoyment. Pete

Jeez, you never know just who may be next. One of his programs has recently been on True cable TV. It included one segment with President Obama in Vietnam. RIP.

Celebrity chef Bourdain dies at 61

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... rdain-dies

PARIS: The American TV celebrity and food writer Anthony Bourdain has been found dead in his hotel room in France while working on his CNN series on culinary traditions around the world. He was 61.

CNN confirmed the death, saying in a statement that Bourdain was found unresponsive on Friday morning local time in his Strasbourg hotel by his friend Eric Ripert, the executive chef of the elite New York restaurant Le Bernardin. Bourdain's paternal grandparents were French.

A gifted storyteller, Bourdain explored haute cuisine and street food alike in his travels, passionately encouraging viewers to "eat and drink with people without fear and prejudice".
He often drank on the air and was public about his struggle with own demons, including drug abuse.

"We ask very simple questions: What makes you happy? What do you eat? What do you like to cook?" Bourdain said in an acceptance speech for a Peabody Award in 2014 for his work in television.

Bourdain achieved celebrity status after the publication in 2000 of his best-selling book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. It combined frank details of his life and career with behind-the-scenes observations on the culinary industry.

CNN said Bourdain was in Strasbourg filming an upcoming segment in his series Parts Unknown.

Anthony Bourdain dead at 61

Post by 404cameljockey »

This talented chef and writer (his 'Kitchen Confidential" book is one of the best reads I can remember, a real eye-opener on what goes on in the kitchen!) is a huge loss to real foodies (I don't mean haute cuisine lovers, or vegetarians who he hated).

I'm posting because the Isaan food episode of his 'Parts Unknown' TV show was a true Bourdain special, trying foods that you may not even like to think about, and of course ... drinking!

If you can get the whole show, please do, it's funny and surprising, with all the Bourdain warmth for both food and people.

May he rest in peace, he will be missed.

Here's a clip:

Thanks for the headsup. I never, ever though to look in the 'Entertainment Zone'!

I guess he was a celeb, so fair enough. My point was not his star status, but his Thai/Viet food engagement. He was a huge exponent of Asian cuisine.
