Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, dies at 76
Aretha Franklin died Thursday following a battle with cancer, her publicist confirmed to the Associated Press.
The Queen of Soul was 76 years old.
Franklin was born in Memphis, Tenn., in 1942, the daughter of a pastor and a civil rights activist.
When Franklin was 2 years old, her family moved to Detroit.
After Franklin’s mother died in 1952, she went on tour performing gospel songs with her father, Clarence LaVaughn Franklin, who then acted as her manager.

Sad but she was a multi millionaire who cheated on her taxes and didn't pay for services and bills

I didn't know the story of Aretha Franklyn standing in with 30 minutes notice for Pavarotti when he took ill just before performing at the Grammys in 1998. Everyone assumed she would do one of her own numbers. But she sang Nessun Dorma!!! And my god did she pull it off! 30 minutes warning and no classical training.

One of the few true greats!

If you want to hear where Aretha's heart was listen to the Amazing Grace album. Regardless of your religious or non- religious feelings this is the real deal.

The first real memory I have of her was in the "Blues Brothers". Some incredible talent on show there and she certainly stood out.
