Public transport at night from south of town.

Post by Homer »

I was looking to rent a place about a kilometer south of market village. I know songthews don't run at night. I figure there is no problem getting a ride south from town at night but what about a ride into town from a taxi or tuk-tuk or motorcycle taxi?

There are many tuk tuks and motorcycle taxis around around more or less all night

Motorcycle are your best bet (as long as you are not too drunk and might fall off!)
The wind blows cold on brake and heath
The weeping willows cry
The mountains dark are jagged teeth
Against a leaden sky.

Moto taxis are easy to find anytime. A km south of Tesco's is still in town, now worries. Just start walking if you don't see one right away, it won't be long before one comes by.

If you're a little bit out of town, the best thing to do is get the phone number of a motobike taxi or tuk-tuk company and get them to come out to you.
My partner seems to be able to get transport within ten minutes or so at any time of day or night.

The Antasilia (is that how its spelt) hotel in Takiab has its own Tuk Tuk that is only supposed to run guests about, but I found if you buy a first beer of the night in their bar the guy will run you into town for a fee (if hes not busy).

Other than that some Tuk Tuks cluster about the junction with the main road near the supermarket/shop...or used to.

The bloke at the big concrete boat restaurant used to call his mate for me sometimes.

Good luck mate

I stayed out there in a rental a year ago, and had no problem calling a taxi to come and pick me up and bring to town, at any time. Price was around 250 baht, so maybe I was "too" generous, and that was why he kept coming.
