Hua Hin Classic Cars, Nov 28-30 '14 with Early Photos

Post by buksida »

Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin, together with Dr. Prachin Eamlumnow, president and CEO of Grand Prix International Co. Ltd., Prachuab Khirikhan, Petchaburi, Hua Hin Municipality, and with support from select five-star hotels in Hua Hin, will be organizing the 12th edition of the Hua Hin Automobile Concours 2014 to celebrate the 87th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The event, the largest ever to be held in its history, will be held from November 28-30, 2014, with the revenue generated after deducting expenses, being donated to the Chaipattana Foundation.

Initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol, the Chaipattana Foundation is renowned for projects dedicated to improving quality of life and self-reliance. The aim of the rally is to raise awareness of Hua Hin as a destination and give the public a chance to view these superb classic cars.

The Hua Hin Automobile Concours features a fun-filled program of activities and fine dining, most of which take place at Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin. Highlighted cars include a Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn, displayed by Dr. Prachin Eamlumnow, which was the most exclusive model of car built in England during 1949-1955. The vehicle had been a birthday present for Chao Phaya Ramakob upon his returning to Thailand, hence its affectionate nickname, “Ramprapath”. Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom had also used this majestic vehicle during her state visit to Thailand when visiting His Majesty King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit.

The three-days event bring together a stunning display of passionate classic car collections such as a Stingray Corvette 1963 by Sayam Sethaputra, 1958 Porsche 356 B by Sawad Horrungrueng. A 1947 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith by Dr. Surakiet Satienthai, along with vehicles belonging to Kiatichai Monsereenusorn, Poj Vitjittranon, and Wittawat Svasti-Xuto.

The classic cars will be a paraded around the Hua Hin town as well as a joyride to the renowned Banyan Golf Club Hua Hin, where the cars will be further showcased and lunch will be served. The day will end with a spectacular gala charity dinner at Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas Hua Hin featuring the glamorous theme of “the Great Gatsby.”

Other activities will include releasing birds, fishes and turtles at Chang Hua Man Royal Project as well as donating of 87 bicycles and hosting lunch for the underprivileged children from four rural schools in Prachuab Khirikhan and Petchaburi.

Anyone interested in bringing their own classic cars to participate in the event or join the gala dinner, please contact Public Relations, Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin.

An event which is well worth a look. Purists may find some faults to quible over - like the wrong engine in a Morris 1000 for example. And don't always expect original factory bodywork colours. But still some excelllent classics IMO. Especially if the Jensen is still putting in an appearance!

Hua Hin / Khao Takiab Classic Car Show.

Post by a10ams »

A couple of years ago I went to the annual show at the Hua Hin Sofitel/Centara in early December. I enquired about exhibiting my car at the next one. I think the cost was about 20,000 baht if my memory is correct. However that may have included the stay and the invitation to the ball afterwards, none of which I wanted to do. Bit scary paying £400 to let people look at your car!

Anyway I also went to a similar event run at the same time in Khao Takiab which was more down to earth and I'm looking to see if anybody knows when it is this year and if possible, any idea who runs it or any other details. Thanks.

PS .... Could have been at the rear and the front of the Amari?

Cheers BB, I'll nip in and ask them about it.

After I made the post I had a look at Khao Takiab on Google Earth and it kind of looked around the Amari area, hence the PS.

Please post on here if you find out, a10ams.

I have tried to find out the program for the main Concours at Sofitel, but the usual Thai bovine ordure, nobody will bother to answer. :banghead:

I will not be bringing a car, but will be going from Bangkok for the weekend, and would like to look at whatever is there.

What kind of wheels do you have? I'll be watching the thread too to see where/when and I hope to be there.

Yes, I know that, Steve. It is already the subject of another thread, and as the cars are driven down from Bangkok, I was trying to find out the program.

The subject of this thread is a seperate show.

7J x 15"

A Ford Escort.

The Sofitel/Centara was just a case of showing up and having a look at the cars. They are all parked right outside the front of the hotel. However they obviously won't be there all the time as I see that they will be visiting Banyan Golf Club as well.

I had an email address given to me two years ago and this was the people who run it thaiclassiccar@yahoo.com. I'm not sure if this is still the current organiser though.

I thought the alternative Amari show was more entertaining. The display out the front was very impressive, whereas the event out the back was much more a collection of cars that actually get driven often ...... and a few dancing girls as well.

Sorry folks, I forgot to update.

I went to the Amari and they are doing nothing this year.

So it's all business as usual at the Sofitel / Centara.

I'll be there to have a look at the cars but not paying 20K to let everybody else look at mine.

We should do a mini car challenge on the first 5 photos as I don't know what they are or the year? Pete
