Songkran 2015. Hua Hin - with VIDEO report
Songkran 2015 in Hua Hin has been announced as 12/13 April 2015. Please use this thread to post any local events.
First event poster I've seen (below) is announcing a water tunnel at Phon King Phet Park. Apologies for the photo quality, but I couldn't get a good angle without stepping into 3 lanes of traffic.

You're just being selfish now....!!Big Boy wrote: Apologies for the photo quality, but I couldn't get a good angle without stepping into 3 lanes of traffic.
Unfortunately the LHG and I cannot make it this year (although we'd love to set some fireworks off for good measure to wake up the fish....) - so to those who celebrate it, have a great time..... and to those that don't... have a great time!!

I thought Songkran in Hua Hin was limited to one day (?), however happy if it is two
Re: Songkran 2015. Hua Hin
It usually starts late afternoon/evening the day before.

Songkran Day (13th) is one of the few days that we are closed each year. We do this to allow the staff to have some fun and also to give the fish a rest.
And all you want to do is to set off some bloody fireworks again..........

Pharvey: what's an LHG?
Been searching every dictionary on the net but noo.
A not so wild guess; it's your partner.
Still like to know whats the abbreviation stands for.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Songkran 2015. Hua Hin
I had intended taking my truck out for Songkran this year to join the mobile revelers. However, my daughter tells me that trucks with water on board have been banned by the fun police this year, and those ignoring it will face an on the spot 5,000 Baht fine.
Has anybody else heard of this restriction please?

Thank you.
OMG. As much as I enjoy Songkran, I hate the drudge home soaking wet. My cunning plan this year was to stay in the comfort of my cab while observing the festivities
It looks as though I'm getting wet again.

I suspect that trucks will be allowed. Maybe only in certain areas or tagging along behind the usual procession. But they're certainly a pain in general traffic. If you do decide to do it just remember to never, ever open a window, even for a second.[WHITE SMILING FACE]
I don't take my car out on Songkran because of the danger of encountering errant motorbikes, especially when the drivers are drunk or just taking evasive action to avoid idiots soaking them.

Re: Songkran 2015. Hua Hin
This is our first Songkran in Thailand and we have heard it's pretty tame in HH compared to CM etc. that doesn't bother us but we don't want to miss any of the fun. Now I see dates mentioned here of 12th and 13th, so am I correct in assuming that it is something like an Aussie New Years Eve where you start celebrating the evening before (the 12th) with celebrations continuing on into the 13th? If this is the case, where would you suggest we head to in HH to enjoy the full experience on both the evening on the 12th and during the day on the 13th. Looking to have some fun here and see as much as possible. Hopefully my understanding of this event is close to the mark. Thanks.
