3500 for springfeild!!! Guess i won't be playing there much even at the guest rate price ( will that go up accordingly??). Any news on the back nine at lakeview?? Heard they were planning a november opening, but thought this was a bit ambitious?
Hope the coup not interfering with the tee times and the after game socialising

Not sure what will happen with the guest rate or Golf Society rate at Springfield, but like you i aint gonna pay more than the current guest rate
to play there. Think the course is crap anyway.
Lake Views last 9 is coming on nicely, not sure when it open, will try and get an up to date answer from them.

Cheers

I agree Springfield is over rated. I prefer Lake View.

Thanks JW. Agree with your thoughts on springfeild. Have played there numerous times but the course always seems to be in a state of repair. ( maybe they have interests in a sand company as they seem to sand the greens much more than any course i have played anywhere!! :( )
Much prefer lakeveiw and pretty pleased i joined there when memberships were at a decent price.
Will be over in nov and will catch up for a drink or 2 at your new digs.

Played Springfield yesterday after a break of 4 weeks. Wont say what i thought but could anybody think of a better way to spend 3500 baht. How about buying 2 goats and letting them run about in a field for 2 weeks and then going to practice your putting.

Say it Super Joe, its a pile of pish and not worth a grand. The ground is all sand now, you cant squeeze the ball at all (golfing term - it doesnt mean in your hand btw.). I wont go there unless i have to for a competition of some sort. :guns:

whata do you expect. Low season is the time for maintenance.

just wait for the course in November, december

I frankly, I dont give a shit: the less Greenfee players, the better :)

less queues on T#1 Faster ; pace of play

and again what is the saying

a golfer need three things
a Club
a Ball
and a good excuse...
you sure found the last one ...

Was up at Springfield a couple of days ago and they confirmed that Guest Green fees ar egoing up to Baht 1750. At the moment the Greens holes 3/4 and 7 are shite also most of the Tee boxes are so sandy that you have troubl e keeping your footing when Teeing off.

Can only think that the increased Fees will be good for members in the Winter as no one else will want to play.

BJ reckons the course will be spot on come November/December.
I played there at the end of December 2005 & it was like playing every shot out of a bunker. From what you guys have said, it doesn't sound any different now.
If the green fees are going up to 3k+, you members are welcome to it. Just remember, the fewer pay & play golfers that turn up, the more your membership fees will be.

Got to say that Springfield has deteriorated over the last 2 year, they have an obsessuion with sand, its tough to get a decent lie on a tee box never mind a fairway.
Bj, as far as visitors are concerned all that will happen is that the tee times booked by locals will decrease and more Koreans, Singaporeans and other guests will take them.
No excuses from me.. just observations shared among many golfers here in Hua Hin.
Lake View was not great over the last year either, very up and down, a spell there in June when the course was in really shocking condition.
I agree that low season is maintenance time but there is a standard of condition that is very achievable here as growth is available year round.

I am a member att Springfield, Lake View and Palm Hills - couldn't make up my mind - and I must say that I have never really understood why Springfield is considered better than Lake View.

Palm Hills is perhaps short for the better players, but for me it's OK. It is nice looking, well maintained and the greens are tough so my scores are kept equally bad as on the two other courses.

One thing is a lot better at Springfield, though. During high season, their marshalls make sure that the tempo is acceptable. At Lake View and Palm Hills anything can happen and nobody cares. Once I was in the fifth (5th) group waiting at LV tee no. 3. That's bad.

Springfield has the nicest facilities and the marshalling is a great benefit - why the hell Lake View dont do it is beyond me!

sure I have. several top notrch courses. There are always times when courses are being build up and when the course is of less quality.
seen it on some off the major courses.

I like SF a lot, as being long hitter it is a course that challenges me both by length and by design. where eg majestic ist extremely short for my lengths...

for me SF is a better course, staff more friendly and better course design. there has been some critisism on the greens not being to firm, they are working ion that now by sanding extra. especially when te rains come, the sand will help. no good course without airing, topdressing and redesingning work.

just wait a few (2-3) years , then see what has happendned to SF. Nice firm greens that require high and precise approaches or good chips to play par.

the new nine are not mature yet but are setup for long and accurate play.

now if you only rate a course by how green the greens are , come to my course here in europe. WAY to much grass in green , but OHHH so green. an approahc from lets say 150 m will hit a nice deep pichmark and hardly any roll or (back) spin. in the afternoon the green is like a carpet. but OHHH so green....

nice is in the eye of the behoulder....
if you like lush courses with short par 4's short par 5's and long play time, SF will not be yours....
