Local high school contact

Post by suej »

Can anyone help?
I have house in Hua Hin and as a teacher am interested in making a link with the local high school as part of our international schools project here in Wales. We already have a link with Lusoto and I have been asked to investigate setting up a link in Thailand.
I would like to be in contact with the high school which is on on the Elephant village road near my house on Avalon. I will be out in July for 6 weeks and would like to have set up something for when I come out.

High School Connection

Post by terry+carmen »

Are you looking to connect with a local Thai High School or an English Speaking School such as Somtawin?

My daughter goes to Somtawin, they have Kinder, Middle and High School.

They started IGCSE and SATs for the High School this year. I believe they will have a year 12 this year (11 in UK)

Local Thai School

We think the school you are looking for is called Matha Yomsathukarn Wittaya School. The locals call it Sathukarn or maybe Satukarn.

Tried to find the website but its all in Thai........good luck.

Thanks fo all the help. I have emailed the shool and am waiting for a reply. Will let you know how I get on. I think I've landed myself with a big job. Never mind 2 years until I can retire and come out to Hua Hin and get away from this freezing wet and miserable climate. I've only been back 2 weeks and the bones are already starting to creak!! I need HEAT even if it is only 26degrees.

Just a note Somtawin does not do IGCSE and SATS. We have had to enrol our son at the british council in bangkok for his exams as you cannot take IGCSE exams at a school that does not have international status (lets hope that the school has taught him the what he needs to know).

Not the best or the cheapest option but all we have.

kitechick, my daughter is enrolled in an English internet school and is studying for her IGCSE exams next year. I would be interested to know the details of sitting the exams at the British council please.

GCSE and SATs

Post by jimflan »

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick, but can someone clarify the position re GCSE's and SATs at Somtawin ? On one post Terry + Carmen say their daughter is sitting them at Somtawin, but another post by kitechick says the school aren't registered to offer them. Does that mean they can do the classes but you have to sit exams elsewhere e.g. Bangkok, (in which case what is the quality of the teaching ? ) or does it mean something else ? :?

Anyone can teach anything but to sit the examinations they have to be a registered international education establishment. This ensures the standards are upheld. Somtawin does not have this.
