There you go, end of first paragraph, that's your problem! This [the patronage system] is the basic problem with not only this subject but many others in Thai culture that fester and produce counter productive effects on so many. As long as the patronage system stays as it is and wields so much influence on all levels of society then you can kiss goodbye to any meaningful change.

This is the overwhelming problem here that lurks at the base of so many issues.
