Oh wow!!! This is getting too close for comfort - I've missed these events by a couple of hours previously. I've no idea if Ladkrabang was on our route last Saturday, but if it was, we'd have missed it by minutes.

Large concrete slab falls on car in Bangkok's Ladkrabang, causing damage

A large concrete slab fell from a truck onto a car in Ladkrabang, causing significant damage and minor injuries to the driver.

The incident occurred at 11.09pm on Saturday at the entrance of Soi Ladkrabang 54, Ladkrabang Road, Bangkok.

The accident involved a white Honda car, which was struck by a large rectangular concrete slab, shattering the windshield and severely damaging the bonnet and front bumper. Nearby, an 18-wheel truck carrying concrete slabs for bridge construction was parked.

Initial investigations revealed that the slab slid off the truck during transportation, hitting the car following behind. The construction contractor promptly moved the slab and attended to the affected driver, who sustained minor wrist injuries.

Authorities are currently questioning the truck driver to determine the exact cause of the incident. The contractor has assured that measures will be taken to prevent such accidents in the future.

Problem is, it is regularly happening in the same area.

Yes, it could happen anywhere, but that's the 3rd time this year I've been within 2 hours of it, and this time being within minutes of it.

Rama II again! Chunk of concrete falls on woman’s car

ANOTHER accident has occurred on Rama II road with a woman saying on Facebook that a chunk of concrete fell on her sedan cracking the entire rear windshield but fortunately she did not get injured, Naewna newspaper said this morning (May 20).

The woman, Sud Khunung, said this about the incident: “Finally, it happened to me … limestone fell from Rama II bridge while exiting the expressway (just before Niche ID Rama II). It was all caused by carelessness of the contractor who just drilled but was not careful.

“This damaged property and wasted time but how lucky that I didn’t get killed. Every day when I drive I do so carefully, in front and at the back, but that’s not enough – I have to risk my life with things falling from above.

“Bangmod police station and Viriyah Insurance have accepted the case. Thank you very much.#Good luck, hope it doesn’t happen very often. #Please be a little cautious and careful.”

On April 29 an engineer suffered a ruptured liver and later died after two chunks of concrete fell on his pickup truck as he was passing beneath a flyover on Rama II road to Samut Sakhon where he worked.

A few days later on May 6 a cable fell on a trailer truck and a pickup truck loaded with seafood from an overhead construction stretch causing severe damage to both vehicles but no injuries.

On March 15 a beam at a bridge being built near Dao Khanong toll plaza collapsed killing six workers and injuring around 24 others.

Three more vehicles are reported to have been damaged by debris falling from the accident-prone expressway being built above Rama II Road, the main route south out of Bangkok.

The incidents reportedly occurred on May 19..........

Sunday I am driving to Bangkok at 6.00 AM. I choose to go with Kanchanapisek (Route 9) driving past Bang Na.

Are there still major issues and delay on route 35/ Rama2 or is this past the exit to Kanchanapisek??

Going out I followed the route as mentioned from 07.00 onwards and going back I chose to drive Rama II no traffic jams or reroutes as well, though the frontage road on the return trip seemed to have more traffic than the main road....

I came from the airport today. Left the airport 06:20 and was at my house in Soi 94 09:10. Took the normal route, Param 2 and underneath all the new construction.

Did the journey to Bangkok in a taxi yesterday, the driver took Rama II and the traffic wasn't too bad with the journey taking 3 hours. It looked pretty grim going the other way though.

I think the point of the alternative route is not the time taken but whether it is safer. When I drive under all that construction work, I am thinking to myself 'what are the odds'? Actually now, I think the chances are increasing of either the car being damaged or somewhat worse me or a passenger.

The previous PM promised it would be finished this year. What are the chances? About as much chance as Hua Hin's leader saying Soi 94 would be finished by last November.

Myanmar worker killed in construction accident on Bangkok's Rama II road

A Myanmar construction worker was killed on Sunday morning after a section of soil collapsed at a construction site on Rama II Road in Bangkok, causing a large concrete slab to fall and crush him while he was laying drainage pipes.

The incident occurred in Bang Mod subdistrict, Chom Thong district, on the outbound side of Rama II Road near Sombunwit School. The area, part of an elevated expressway construction zone, had been closed to traffic. Rescue teams were dispatched after police received a report of a worker falling into a trench.

The victim, identified as Mr Mew, 39, was found unconscious and partially submerged in muddy water at the bottom of a three-metre-deep trench. He was pinned face-down by a heavy concrete slab. Rescue workers used pumps to drain the water and managed to retrieve him. Although he still had a faint pulse, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being rushed to Bangpakok 9 Hospital.

According to co-workers, the ground suddenly subsided while they were installing drainage pipes beneath the elevated road. Mr Mew, who was working at the bottom of the trench, was buried under the collapsing soil and concrete. Authorities are now collecting evidence and questioning witnesses, including the site supervisor, to determine the cause of the collapse.

The site is part of the Rama III–Dao Khanong–Western Outer Ring Road expressway project, overseen by the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT). The route will eventually connect with the Bang Khun Thian–Ban Phaeo intercity motorway (M82).
